did they remake this engine alot of times or is it the same engine?i don't know why honda keeps putting new things on the same engine.how meny k20 type engines are there anyway?

no they are all very different...

more like K-series and not just k20

K20a = PRC IM, cams, crank, pistons, ecu, injectors... type-r
K20a = RBC IM, cams, and the rest PRC... different ports in head... euro-r
K20a2 = PRB... DC5s
K20a3 = crap... decent low comp good for boost... EP3, DC5base
K20z1 = PRC cams, and the rest is a2... DC5s 05-06
K20z3 = RBC IM and euro-r head ports... different oil pump design... 06+ si
K23 = RDX turbo
K24a1 = crap... good boost... accord
K24a2 = like a 2.4 a2 with RBC IM
K24a4 = crap... although it accepts... true vtec head swaps

crap= single variable cam lobe on intake side with vtec in @ 2200... weird, but good on gas... all with low comp to run on 87 pump

i hope i spit it all out right... but that should get you started. most i talk to think all "k20's" are created equal, but thats far from the truth.

K is just the family of engines, 20 is the displacement (2.0 liters), and the following code (A2, z3, etc) specify which specific engine in that family and displacement it is.

All car companies do this. For example:
BMW M50 exists as
M50b20
M50b25
M50b25TU (technical update [vanos])
M50b30 (known as the S50 US)
