I purchased my awesome 2007 civic 1.8l. It has 123,000 miles on it. The previous owner has been using 10w-30 weight oil. The owners manual suggests 10w- 20 weight oil. It's time for an oil change. My question is - should I go back to dealer recommendations and drop in oil weight to 20 weight oil ,or should I continue to use 30 weight??????? Thanks.

You should be using what is specified in the owner's manual. The viscosity of the oil is part of the design of the engine. Using thinner or thicker oil will have negative consequences for the longevity or efficiency (performance) of the engine.

I'd recommend that you change back to the 10W-20. I'd also recommend that you choose one oil and stick with it. Changing oil brands or changing between synth and conventional over and over again will loosen the gaskets leading to leaks.

For all those ^^^ reasons I would go back to what's recommended in the manual then stick to the same product you choose.
