I used to think my Si's mileage was bad for a car without torque. I mean, factor out the premium gas, and it STILL seemed bad that I was averaging 23 MPG 80% city/ 20% hwy.
Then I got my wife a Mazda3.
Her commute is all city, with lots of stops, and a 3-block section is the longest she goes without a stop sign or light. Ok, so bad commute ... but she drives like a girl (no offense to girls!) and she is averaging ...
... 19 MPG ...
I got 18 MPG back when I used to drive my dad's 2005 G35x downtown and back. Wow!!! I don't tell my wife, but I am so pissed every time she fills up and I see another terrible gas tank. The Mazda3 has a 60L tank, and I'll usually fill up 48L and get less than 400 KM. Just friggin terrible for an "economy" car. Oh well ... At least the car is nice and a lot of fun to drive
Nevertheless, I'm happier than ever in my FA5. I drive it in a spirited fashion, VTEC often, cruise on the highway at 80+, and still have managed to average 23 MPG over almost a year.
