I've got a 2007 Civic Hybrid with a weird issue in which the hybrid charging system doesn't kick in right away. The hybrid battery gauge doesn't indicate any charging when my car has been sitting for roughly 2 hours or more. The engine runs like it does when the battery is inactive, and the gauge shows that the IMA is assisting the engine when I accelerate. However, when I brake it does not charge. Sometimes when I take my foot fully off the accelerator or press down just enough to maintain speed, the gauge will show one green bar, but that's it. It usually takes roughly 3-5 minutes (depending on how long the car has been sitting) for the charging system to kick in and work perfect. The battery is fine as it is brand new, so I know that's not the issue.
I don't know if this is common. I don't know if the system needs to warm up first. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or knows what the issue is, whether there's a fix, or if it's just the way it all works.
Thanks for the help.
