How is your front plate attached?

2393 Views 25 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  marc-o-lishuz
So I took off my front plate only to find that they had used a screw to hold on the top part of the housing. This means I have a hole in my bumper  I am going to Honda today to get his resolved. What I want to know is how is the plate housing attached for all of you that do not have a screw going through your bumper? Is it only attached using the 2 bottom screws or is there adhesive behind the housing?

Thanks

just the two mounting holes in the grill
Ditto, although I'm not using the Honda mount.

I plugged the hole in my bumper skin with a small plastic pin that was used to mount a fan to a computer CPU. I still need to use touch up pain on the pin though.

I took mine off.
They are required in BC, you'll get a ticket if you don't have a plate.

Spud, check the DIY board, there is a procedure thread with pics.

... I know how to take it off, I just want to see how many of you have the screw put through your bumper and how many do not. The main DIY license plate flip thread also shows that he did not have a screw in his bumper. I am not talkign about how your plate is essentially is attached when flipped.

My main question is:
When you got the car stock, how was the license plate attached? Did they put a screw through your bumper to "help" secure the plate housing or not? If they did not put a screw in your bumper, did they do anything else to secure the housing, or did they leave it with just the lower 2 screws?
Ya screwed on isn't the nicest, but the civic doesn't have the most accommodating front bumper for license plates. I figure if the worst thing that happens to my front bumper is a few screw holes than I'll take it ;-)
well i have a hole in my bumper too because of thise mounting procedure. and a few weeks ago i tried to get Richmond Honda to fix this. at first they agreed to fix it and everything. i got to the part where i am able to get a loaner car and everything. but a few days after i left my own car at the dealership, they called me and said they won't fix the hole. obviously.. i was soOoo pissed off. their reason was... "We wont the hole just because we did something properly." so apparently, this way of mounting the front licence plate is a proper procedure....

some people get it, some people dont.. it just depends on the service guy who mounts the plates at delievery
I think most of us have holes :(
I used a plastic plug to fill it.

I (luckly) have it bolted to the grill. No holes for me ^.^!
I'm in florida and you don't need a front plate but they put one on anyway for dealer advertisement. They didn't screw it they just use the metal clips in the lower grill.
Totally off topic - Spud, do you head east on 54th ave and make a right (south) on Knight around 9am every morning?

On topic...I attached mine using a metal strap behind the lower grill. Got longer screws and nuts. Drawing the plate tight against the grill keeps it in place. I put the soft part of velcro along the bottom of the plate so it doesn't scratch the paint

Mine didn't have a hole in the bumper thankfully. I have flipped the plate as well.

Nope. My daily commute takes me from Ladner to Richmond.
i had a hole on my bumper temporily filled it and touch up over it but will get fixed when i get my whole bumper painted haha
There is a screw in mine too. It doesn't bother me, since I kind of like where the plate is mounted - and we have to have one in TX too!
I have a hole in my bumper too. The front plate is required out here in Cali but i took it off after the first week. Its been a year and a half without it and no tickets. Its a 10 fix it ticket so i'm not to worried. Rocking the Hole in the bumper. The hole adds like 20hp so thats why i haven't filled it.
