How do I adjust headlight aim??

83040 Views 88 Replies 46 Participants Last post by  discostu69er
Installed HIR low beams, but aim is too low. I don't want to blind oncoming drivers, but want to aim slightly higher.

Can anyone tell me how to adjust headlamp vertical aim?

Thanks!

which hole do i adjust the low beam, the one on top the headlight or the one on the side of the fender?
top of the light
if u look there ull see a bolt with teeth, u can use a screw driver (it will say high with an arrow and low on the top of the bumper IN the engine bay) OR u can get ur hand down there and use a 10mm ORRR as i did, ur hand and a little bit of arm strength!!!
fixed my aim a little since the accident, problem being i still need to open her up for the horizontal aim and see if the tab is broken OR if i just need to rescrew it down
thank tda1337 for the fast respone, ill give that a try tonight. Do you know what the hold that is on the side of the fender do?
which way do i turn to raise my low beam. clockwise or counter clockwise
its a bit confusing, but i found on the passenger side to turn it towards me to get it to go up, so counter clockwise if facing the bolt??
maybe i dunno, the diagram on the top of the bumper shows up curved arrow down lol
follow that diagram

also im not sure WHICH hole in the fender ur talkin bout (fog one is under the bumper)
there is a whole with a screw for holding the bumper on, its on each side of the bumper ina whole near the end of the light if thats what ur talking bout, thats for taking the bumper on and off lol
Turn the bolt clockwise(righty-tighty) to raise the aim...as long as your looking at the head of the bolt, clockwise is only one direction and can't really goof it up.

The way I think about the diagram is how I should be turning my screwdriver to get the bolt to move.
can you adjust the headlights side to side ?
cant seem to find the similar bolt (with gear)

Im still confused which direction to turn for the up and down because the left and right markings are not the same. I would assume to be the same because its up and down and the diagram dont make sense at all
dude, stick a screw driver in the whole (each side WILL be different) and turn in the direction u want it
Side to side cannot be adjusted, as far as i know, if someone knows how, PLEASE let me know!!!
thanks for this thread, just put my HIDs in last night, and the left is like pointing way down, and the right is a little high. must adjust tonite! thanks guys, this place is great for info.
bump...i adjust my drivers side BUT how do i do the other one? do i have to take the washer fluid tank too?
"the headlights were properly aimed when your vehicle was new. if you regulary carry heavy items in the trunk, readjustment may be required. adjustments should be done by your dealer or other qualified technician."
its the exact same, but you can use a long, like 12-14 inch screw driver to turn the bolt. i used a flat head cause its all i had, but a philips works bets. look at the top of the passenger one, its easier to see. use a flash light.

don't make me get my manual and show you the page number lol
it even tells you which way to rotate it.
