Just drove my car of the lot 2 weeks ago.. it has at THE MOST 1200 Miles on it... 1200 NOT 12K.. On the way home i hear a slight knocking i was about to get home so i figured it would make it. When :eek:hsnap: I hear the worst sound i've ever hear outta car. Turns out it slung a rod and there's a hole in my block. I'll admit i drove it somewhat fast that night got up to maybe 125 but i never over-revved it. Obviously this is a manufacturer defect right?? Or will they try and say that it's my fault since i drove it a little fast??
Please help I need to know what to ask them and what to tell them when they call me tomorrow after they pull the head..

ouch. they'll be checking your ECU to see if you've overrevved it. however, taking it to 125 shouldnt hurt it =\ good luck man

In the history of the millionish VTEC motors produced, NOT ONE has ever failed, given good maintenance. I learned this fact from Top Gear. You must've facked up somehow.

yes it has before...and its not a fact, because you can't prove it. Just because honda denies claim doesn't mean their motor was not a defect.

Yea they said they were gonna take the head off and see if it was a defect or if it was abused I'm expecting their call tomorrow.. Oh and what exactly is considered over-revving? is it when the shift light flashes or when you go off the 9 on the tach?

I believe the claim is that not one VTEC unit has ever failed on an engine that was properly maintained, or on warranty. And I believe the VTEC unit they're talking about is the oil pressure driven unit that moves the camshafts. Since the device is supposedly pathetically simple, I'm not surprised one has ever failed under the previous stated conditions.

And an over rev happens when say, you are accelerating hard from 4th to 5th but accidentally shift into 3rd. The rev-limiter cannot catch it and you rpms go way past 9k. You cannot over rev unless you do something like this.

Would only driving it for 1200 miles be considered proper maintenance???

Sweet then it's def their fault cuz i've never been retarted enough to do that... what are the chances that someone did that in the 79 miles before me??
