Hey guys, I was driving down the road, and I decided, why not do a small pull here, well, when I banged into second, I heard a loud pop and it sounded like my clutch was griding(not synchro grinding) and decided to turn around and get home. I put my car on stands and decided to inspect it and saw a hole through my bell housing. There is also fluid that splattered on the side of my fender liners, but no active dripping of transmission fluid... I'm not sure what happened, so I'm wondering if you guys could help diagnose this. I know I won't fully know what is wrong unless I pull the bell housing off, but, what could it be? How much am I looking at? And should I replace whatever it is by myself, or have it towed to a shop?
I don't want to start taking it apart and find out it's something I can't do by myself. I'm more than capable of replacing a clutch, but I'm not so sure that it's the problem. I can still put it in gear and drive, but when I accelerate, it just starts grinding again. And no, I didn't drive it after I brought it back home.

I think if you have less than [5] posts then the 8th Gen must make you fill out a couple questions in a mechanical chat.
So like is this a transmission from a Nissan Type GT-R or say a 2008 Civic DX?
If Civic, 1.8 liter or 2.0 SI?
That puppy is gone. Something let loose and shot thru and the lack of lubrication thereafter likely destroyed your core if that was worth something.

Takes some kahunas to do a transmission change but certainly if you are game, this site has people that will walk you thru it.

That is for a SI.

I concur, fill out the damn profiles!

Anyway, I'm hella bored so here's a quick way to tell an 8th gen 5spd from a 6spd trans when viewed from the angle the OP posted.

That's a 6spd trans case. The fill hole is all the way to the right and there are 5 casting marks.

If it were from a 5spd, it'd have the fill hole farther to the left (in the middle) and have 4 casting marks.
