I was hoping my first post would be with a picture my nice new civic but first deal didn't work out and now I'm shopping again.
There is a '09 black civic with HFP front and rear bumper already installed. This isn't a problem since I was planning on doing this eventually anyway. I noticed however, all around in between the new bumper and original body, there seems to be a strip of black that is different enough my friend and I noticed while looking at the car at night. The bumper itself seemed solidly installed tho, I tried to force it off a bit.
Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with aftermarket civic parts so I was wondering is this usual? It looks like it is probably a strip of adhesive used to help install the bumper. I was attempting to compare it to pictures of other people's cars on the forums it doesn't seem like anyone else has something similar.
I def don't want to consider this car if this is something major out of place. Thanks in advance for any advice and I'm still keeping my options open and looking around.

HFP kit has like a weather stripping ( I guess that's what its called) that goes all the way around the car on the front and rear bumpers. I'm guessing it serves two purposes, to keep debris out and to prevent scratching the paint between the kit and the bumpers.

after a lengthy install of my HFP kit I forced my wife to the garage to admire my work... first thing:

"What's that black line all around it?"

"It's the weather stripping, honey"

"Oh... is it always going to be like that?"

" "

LoL, that is a good story. I know that feeling. Im sort of afraid of the same thing so wanted to make sure it is supposed to be there.

The weather stripping you mention is the rubber molding:
Part # 08F03-SHJ-1200D in gray
Part # 08F03-SHJ-1100D in black

Look at #7 in this link of parts:

Yes it keeps a good seal between the bumper and the lip.

I am weary about the weatherstripping. I bought my HFP parts in January of last year. I put my car away for the winter however so they just sat in boxes in my garage

I pulled them out in the spring time and some of the weatherstripping was coming off of one of the sides. I was able to get it to stick back on (using double-sided 3M adhesive tape) however it makes me wonder about the longevity of the stuff. Again, I don't drive my car in crappy winter weather but for those who do, I wonder if this weatherstripping will hold up for years.

I did some research and a lot of the integra owners who can score an OEM lip kit for the integra have to replace the weatherstripping. Toyota sells the same stuff by the roll and it seems pretty straightforward to replace. I just wouldn't want to have to take the kit off to replace it (ugh!)

...figured I'd throw this out there since we're on the topic of weatherstripping.

Weird mine doesnt have it and every other coupe ive seen doesnt either, i have seen it on some sedans though. Oh well dont need it anyways lol
I don't think they added it until 2009.

I had an 08 coupe with HFP kit and it did not have it (visible). I think it had it down a little ways but nothing like my 09 sedan.

Even 09 coupes have more weatherstripping than the 08's
