CajunRider was an extreme help...both times my trunk got stuck.

I am glad i was able to get my trunk open...shortly afterwards the cheap CHEAP plastic latch broke completely. So now I have to order a new one...and figure out how to install it

here are the pics. CAjunRider you are a lifesaver 2 times.

this is the passenger side...stick it in towards center (preferably with something harder than a plastic knife.

pull towards the passenger side like a lever

pop down the seat!

crawl through and open trunk with emergency latch.

ok, i have 06 Civic coupe. I know lately i've sorta crammed some laundry baskets and other junk in my trunk almost to capacity. maybe this damaged it somehow.

but yesterday it seemed fine. today I press the button and i can hear the trunk clicking inside, but nothing opens. I try pulling on the trunk while pressing button and nothing.

I tried the lever on the side of my seat and it pulls up but nothing "catches". again, nothing happens with the trunk...just the same clicking noise..

I know that my trunk is not full right now and there shouldn't be anything caught in between or anything.... I tried stopping abruptly while driving forward and backwards to see if it would shake anything loose. still nothing.

the only thing abnormal from yesterday was, because my trunk was pretty full, when I pressed the button the door only opened part way because a laundry basket had caught something...but i was able to manually open the door. hopefully I can get this open!

what to do?

No, I don't have the valet lock on. I've tried locking and unlocking many times. it's not that.

I'm out of warrantee- i called the dealer and of course they want me to bring it in.

I"ve called locksmith--nothing he can really do. he advised me to put weight on the trunk while trying to open it.

the only thing is...how do I fold down the back seats? the only levers are in the trunk...so I can't fold down the back seats! :'(

i've tried putting pressure on my trunk and tried pulling up or pushing forward while pressing the open button....

sigh...there is no key hole in the trunk for EX and Si models.

ive taken most of the bottom seat cushion off, and that doesn't seem like it will lead anywhere either.

there has GOT to be a way to fold the seats without getting INTO the trunk.

what if a kid gets stuck in the trunk? and doesn't know how to push the little button on the inside?!

or a pet?

your kid plays a prank and locks your pet inside your trunk...and it gets jammed.....what then?!

help!!!!!!!!!!

will the dealership be able to do ANYTHING?

thank you for your help.

Valet lock wouldn't stop it from opening from the remote anyways. I bet the dealer might do a goodwill thing and help ya out. probably take the rear seats out or go thru the deck to un stick it.

You could try pushing the trunk DOWN...to seat it firmly, and then unlock/pull on the trunk. If that doesn't work, it looks like other owners have had to unscrew the back seat enough to get a hand in there - although it doesn't look like getting it open takes care of the problem, the lock itself may need attention.

my trunk lid would always get stuck when stuff has been filled then when stuff has been taken out the trunk lid would be in stuck mode, i'd be standing there clicking the trunk unlock button on my key-fob---we'd always have to use the key to manually un-lock it, then no more stuck trunk lid. but i no longer have that car.

No keyhole on these trunks...it's remote cable or electric open only.

yeah, people advised me to do this, and i tried for over an hour. wiggling the trunk. putting my whole weight and bouncing on the car up and down (200lbs of fat) all while pressing the button or having someone pull the lever repeatedly.

So, there are other people who have had this issue?!!!!!!!???????????

I am so stressed... so I tried taking the back seat cushion (bottom part - seat). and the middle part seems like it won't come off...also there seems to be a lot of wiring going across down there so I don't want to yank anything off.....

I don't know if that'd help ...the seat back seems like it's securely on there.

THat might work--taking off the speaker deck thing.....

CAn you guess how much a dealer will charge me to get this fixed? I HOPE less than $100.... i can't afford much rigth now.

Hmm, did you try pulling up on the trunk latch by your driver's seat? You didn't say but I'm assuming you obviously did lol. You say you didn't use the valet lock, well go get your valet key anyways and lock and unlock it, then pull up on the lever by the driver's seat and or press your trunk button on your remote, see if that works.

If nothing is working, then it means your trunk lid latch assembly connector has been disconnected (it's a connector cable that runs to and plugs up to your latch, it is how you're able to remotely unlatch your trunk lid, as well as providing the function to unlatch you trunk by pulling the lever by your seat). It could have possibly been knocked out of place or loosened by all of that stuff in your trunk...Either that, or the connector to your latch assembly has a discontinuity and needs to be replaced.

what do you mean valet key.... hmm. i thought you lock it with your normal key that you use to start the car.... it turns anways. and when I lock it, then i can't pull the lever on the side of my car anymore...

is there another valet lock? If so, i've never even touched it...

i don;t get what the point of a valet lock is.....if you're locking your trunk....but the valet guy who has your key can simply unlock it next to the lever for the trunk release....

thank you for pointing me to this thread: Honda-Tech.com: Honda Civic (2006 - Current): 06 Civic trunk won't pop open!

I"m gonna try to do what this guy did.... unscrew the backseat enough so that I can stick my hand far enough to get the backseat release levers.... sounds tough. I dunno how to unscrew the backseat...

I imagine he's talkinga bout the 40/60 split area where you can stick your hand in.

I can't really comment on the stuck trunk thing, but about the valet key...

The normal key can lock and unlock the trunk release (next to driver). The valet key can't open the trunk or unlock the trunk release. The point is, you pull up somewhere and don't want the valet smoking the weed you have in the trunk, so you lock the trunk with your own key, keep it and give him the valet key. Not that i know about weed in the trunk.... i'm just saying. ;)

ah i get it.

so I just went out and looked and it's gonna be a huge pain to unscrew part of the seat. I think I would have to take the seat cushion completely off. . the only part i was able to peel off was a little part of the bottom.........and i could see several bots for the seat frame....

the 40/60 split.....I can barely even fit my hand in there..... *sigh*

Oops, I meant use ur normal key, but yeah nevermind there's no point to do that lol.

Anyways, I think the connector to your trunk lid latch assembly is probably loose or disconnected - you're gonna have to figure out how to take the rear seats apart I guess. I looked through my helm manual to see what you could do but it looks like the manual requires that you go through the trunk to remove the seats properly. I imagine you're just going to have to pry your hands between the seats and feel for the bolts and get them off some how lol. Sounds like a PITA, good luck with that though :thumb:

the valet key will not unlock the trunk release handle if its locked, only the regular keys will.
the point is to give the valet guy the grey key.

thank you all. I think i'm gonna do the subwoofer solution first. seems like the easiest thing to do without messing anything up.

I wonder though...once I take the subwoofer cap off.... what if the emergency release doens't work?

will i be able to reach to the seat fold down release latches?

thanks a million all.
