getting to ~300hp N/A

Hey guys, I'm just wondering what it would take to get to 300whp N/A in our cars. A supercharger kit would get me there no problem, but I am intrigued by the N/A route. Is anybody on here running a strong N/A setup?

Time and a fat fat fat fat fat wallet lol
I think highest from a member here right now is 275ish whp.

no people have definitely made a bit over 300 going NA but it is TOUGH! Every high HP NA build ive seen is a k24 block with a k20z3 head and have basically every single internal part replaced. most are also ported/sleeved up to 2.5L.

so start piecing together new pistons, valves, retainers, springs cams, shafts, manifolds, etc etc etc etc. when you have an entire engines worth, youre ready to get started.

it takes a crazy amount of money and parts, and a lot of time and effort and a great tune. it can be done but frankly, i wouldnt do it unless youve got a ton of money, something to prove, or both.
For N/A you need to get a k24, increase compression do full internals, valvetrain, and have the best intake and exhaust combo.

even supercharged its tough to get 300whp
You clearly haven't checked the Supercharging forum recently. 350 is an easily obtainable number over there now.

Yea 300 is a fairly "easy" place to start for supers. Super plus decent bolt ons will make you 300. On NA you need absolutely every part of your engine working in perfect harmony To make 300.

Edit: 300 HP supered with stock internals is my goal which is why I know it can be done.

Edit 2: duh! Perfect example. 318 HP, NA. If you look at the parts list (or just measure how long it is) you should understand perfectly.

quick question, little off, but has anyone done a super on a stock motor? From what I can find, ppl seem to do a bunch of stuff internally when they add a super, but not much on stock. I know you can go turbo on stock, you just can't get much more than 6psi. lol.

sure, ive seen I/H/E with a super a LOT. dont want to run a huge super pulley but you can definitely do it on stock internals. intake is probably very important but the header and exhaust probably isnt even necessary. what you will need is a new tune, JR will give you a tune when you buy their kit. best thing to do if youre spending that much on a super is to get FP though.
I knew it would cost a lot, but I was thinking like 3-5 grand. I don't want to replace everything in the engine just to get 300hp when the Evo/STi crowd is making that bone stock. I wish these Si's were faster :(

they are :D
those evos dont go that much faster than the Si's around an Autox with good drivers.

remember your engine makes 100 hp per liter without forced induction. thats pretty darn good already. Honda did alot to make the K20 perform admirably without forced induction. improving on a very good platform already is tough.

i think the obvious "next step" is induction. I would go for a super, it sounds like you want the kind of driveability of NA with more power. a super give you good bottom end power which is nice for every day driving. with 3-5k you should be able to do I/H/E plus super, FP and maybe even some internals. this should get you over 300 without much trouble and you wont be dealing with a track monster that shouldnt touch public asphalt.

Power isn't everything, they have their own cons/problems.
oh, and to make 300 going NA you need to multiply your budget by 10x :D
well its for sure possible no doubt, its just not like you buy the ct stage 1 or even 2 and have 300 whp, I had ct stage one and made 224whp and 170tq with no other mods (mustang dyno), I then got stage 2 and a berk HFC, with vitviper currently in the middle of tuning my car, and I would assume about 250whp. correct me if im wrong but even with a decent quality race header and 3" exhaust i wouldnt expect over 280-285 horsepower.

All i was basically stating was that your not going to have a I/H/E civic si through a supercharger kit on it and make 300whp.

I can say however that my supercharged si Keeps up with almost anything i have came in counter with.

I hear ya, and yea i certainly wouldnt expect 300 on a super (at least with standard pulleys) with anything less than a full 3" through the back. Still very doable, as we both agree.

and ESPECIALLY goes to show how hard it is to make 300 HP NA

I've almost made 300 hp lol just 5 short at 295whp and 210torque. Let me tell you now it's EXPENSIVE! I've spent 15k building my motor and haven't even hit 300! But you pretty much need a k20/k24, ported head, bigger injectors, all valve train, at least a 12:5:1 compression or higher, rods, pistons, rsx type s oil pump, stage 3 skunk 2 cams or drag cartel 4, Walbro fuel pump, good header and exhaust "skunk 2 race header and 76mm exhaust work great) bigger throttle body, bigger intake manifold and a good tuner!

I'm all hopped up on Junk 2!!!
O yeah one more thing I forgot: a 3.5 in cold air intake.

im surprised youve made it so far under 15k! sounds like a sweet build.

dont get me wrong, IF you can do it, NA all day man...

No, should cost around 10k, multiplying it by 10 times would get him a fire breathing 350 whp+ MONSTER.

I don't know how much of his own work the dude that spent 15k did, but i'd guess not much.
