$100-150 per tire!? Thats insane... it does NOT take them that much time. But sadly, your only options are to drive with the 'TPMS' light on, get the stealership to reprogram the new ones ... or you could be the guinea pig and tear apart your dash to remove the bulb from the gauge cluster.

what exactly is VSA and what are the pros and cons of it on/off
VSA = Vehicle Stability Assistance.

Youd be better off searching than having me try to explain here as how VSA functions doesnt really have anything to do with this thread

why can't the dealship just totally disable the whole system by removing the sensors and the tpms control box (or wat ever it is). and just put in regular valve stems
... because it is federally mandated that all 08+ vehicles be equipped with tpms

Low Tire Pressure - This light is supposed ot look like a tire with a '!' over it but looks more like a horseshoe.
This indicator means one of your tires (or all) are below the allowable threshold. This light can be a faulty
sensor, but is most likely a low tire, be it from a slow leak, time, or temperature change. Fill your tires up to
the recommended 32psi (or more), and drive for 5 minutes, the light should shut itself off. If it does not,
take car to dealer, it's a faulty sensor.

So, do i just pump up my tires? how do i know if it's 32psi or not?
You should use a tire pressure gauge. Most air pumps have one built in, but getting your own at autozone for $5-10 is certainly worth the investment.

How long will it be before someone comes up with a pressurized box that you leave in the trunk and throw the sensors in it and never have to deal with them again?
never, because it will not work... this has been discussed

All good info Phalanx, only thing I'll point out is the sensor sitting flush against the inside of an aftermarket wheel. Its convenient for the guy mounting the tire (me), but its not critical. As for the spacer to make it sit flush, I've never seen one and that just sounds like something to go wrong. One more point, never ever use Fix A Flat, especially if you have sensors. If left in your tire long enough, it will ruin your sensor.
Good info. Thanks for the heads up :thumb:

I doubt they really changed the functionality for 2010... there wouldnt be any reason for them to change it until the next model cycle. But I suppose it is possible, seeing as they added TPMS mid-model, I just dont see them changing how TPMS functions mid-model

Shouldn't take more than one launch to find out whether VSA is still active. If this is the case then perhaps FlashPro can disable VSA on your car. I programmed mine to totally eliminate VSA and don't miss it a bit and there's no VSA light on either.
This is also a very good options that I hadnt thought of.

Well i know for sure now that if you have the original tires with sensors in the trunk/back seat the TPMS light will not come on, drove about 20 miles so far. I'll take the tires out this evening and go for a few miles and see if it comes on.
The TPMS light will not come on for quite a while the first time. You having them in the trunk isnt doing anything. Your car just hasnt registered the system as inoperable, yet.

Hello all,

I'm interested in purchasing some HFP Wheels for my 2010 Civic EX Sedan, but WITHOUT TPMS. I realize the light on the dash will stay on. I plan on running these wheels from say MAY - SEPT and remove them during the winter months, and put back on the OEM wheels with TPMS. I asked the local dealer that when I put my OEM wheels back on that have the sensors, would the light on the dash then go off? They said NO, that it would need to be reprogramed because the tires would be off the car to long and the sensors lose their memory. Is this TRUE? They want $100 bucks as others have mentioned in these threads. Talk about a money maker. I would appreciate any feedback.
That is NOT true

I ran mine for about 5-6 months without TPMS (light was on) and when I put my OEM wheels/tires with TPMS bakc on the car, the light went away

I am trading my '09 Si 17" rims with TPMS for a set of 18" HFP's later today.
is there a way to check for certain if his HFPs have TPMS without removing the tires from the HFPs?
not that I am aware of... however, both of you WILL have the 'TPMS' light turn on and will need to get them re-programmed. The car will only recognize one set of sensors at a time and it will be looking for the sensors that youve traded away.

How can I tell if the new wheels have the tpms installed?
You will either need a tool to scan for them, or to unmount the tires and check. However, if they are OEM wheels the sensors are absolutely present unless the other person deliberately removed them

Will the 2008 tpms modules fit into the 2010 alloy wheels?
yes, they should fit

And, how much should it cost to get the tpms modules transfered from the stock wheels to the new alloy wheels? I understand that the tires on both sets will need to be unmounted.
That will vary form place to place. Ive heard as much as $100 total and also heard $50 per wheel/tire

Also, once transfered, the tpms sensors shouldn't need to be reprogramed as they are already synced with the car; right?
Correct

Is it possible to tell without scanning for them? The value stems on my stock wheels are metal and have a locknut that holds them on, but the value stems on the OEM 2010 alloy wheels are rubber with no locknut.

Anyone out there with 2010 OEM alloys with TPMS that can tell me if they have metal or rubber value stems?
I suppose you might be able to tell by looking at the valve stems... but wouldnt it just be easier to ask the person youre buying them from if he ever removed the sensors? EVERY car 08+ comes with sensors fromt he factory. So, unless he removed them, they are there.

How the heck did none of us on 8th think about this before???
.... because thats a bizarre solution that still doesnt address the issue of multiple sets of wheels/tires

I'm getting a set of winter steelies and not going to get the TPMS sensors for them. I will prob run them for 2-3 months but would there be any issues with the TPMS when I put the stock 17's back on?

Thanks
Did you even read the first post in this thread?

7. I have a new set of wheels that I did not put the TPMS sensors in. I still have my stock wheels with the sensors
for the winter. Will the TPMS light go off when I put my stock wheels back on?

Yes, when you put on a set of wheels that has the registered sensors onto the vehicle, after a couple minutes of
driving the TPMS light will turn off.
