I own a 08 black si coupe, stock, and for some reason, whenever i turn on my engine in the morning or after like 5 hours of not driving it, my engine idles around 1.6-1.8k

my friends told me it was a lemon and i should bring it into dealer, but after about 3 to 4 minutes it idles down to normalish of 800-1200

i live in southern cali by the way, so it has nothing to do with freezing temperatures, nor do i run my engine hard. i drive quite moderately

anyone else with the 08 si experiencing this?

whne in cold temsp (40 or below) my car idles at 1800 for about 30 seconds, then slowly drops to 1300 for a couple of minutes and eventually goes down to about 800 when completely warmed up.

i think your car is normal.
BTW, i have an 06.

Same here. I have a 06 and it does the same thing in cold weather. After about a minute or so, it will be back to normal. Nothing to worry about. You try sitting outside in the cold for a few hours and see how spunky you'll be. She needs some time to warm up!

Don't listen to him. Any car will idle high when they're cold. It will always take a bit of time to get to regular operating temperatures.

Yea, like these guys said...its completely normal. Dont let people constantly worry you about something being wrong with your car. It will only make you paranoid and you will not be as happy with your car in the long run. These cars, while having minor annoyances like 3rd gear from time to time are pretty much bulletproof. Just get in, let it idle for 30-45 seconds and take it easy until the car is warmed up.

Exactly. Cold means not operating temperature. The OP mentioned that he was in California and not very cold. However, 70 degrees is very different than a normal operating temp of 200 degrees. The car will idle high for a while even at mild ambiant temps, though it may idle high longer at lower temps (takes longer to get to operating temp).

It's normal. I parked in a warm garage all week and I still get the initial high rev idle. I have an 07.

Your car normally idles at 1200 RPM? Your car is a lemon!

It should be at 600-700 RPM.

Yes, this has been talked about before for our Si 's 06+ .It is normal .....mine does it all the time!

that is normal. i wouldn't worry about it... but the car is on warantee so if it makes you feel more comfortable... take it in to get looked at.

when you start the car is should be around the 2000 mark. (thus is called fast idle) the civic has two fast idle stages. the first is approx 2000.... then it goes down to approx 1500 and then down to the normal of 500-800.

fast idle on a cold car is completely normal! i was told that the fast idle also allows your car to build oil pressure which is why you should let it run for at least a min before driving off no matter how cold or warm it is out.
