I'm a bit confused as to which gear is best for me, D or D3? Is there a difference when it comes to performance and gasoline consumption? I understand that D2 and D1 are only used for uphill climbing and engine breaking when going downhill. But what's the difference between D and D3 in terms of it's usage? I drive in an area where the roads are very bad so I seldom go beyond 60km/h. Should I use D or D3 or it doesn't really matter?

not to force a multiple gear downshift with your foot completely off the throttle. Doing that will force the transmission to drag the engine up to the rpm it should be at for the gear you're downshifting to and that would introduce a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on things.

Just a thought......

good Info, the first 2 pages is full of Auto Haters jeez some of us have an auto for a reason.

Anyway I usually put mine in 2nd when I leave my neighborhood because there's a long Wavy road I have to get through before i get to more flat roads, and eventually shift to 3rd and then D then I dont mess with it, the road gets smoother as I go on. But someone said you should keep your foot on the throttle while shifting? I just let of the gas a little, is this bad, im shifting up not down

Yes im aware this is an old thread

With an automatic, I'm not sure what you do with the throttle makes much difference in how it shifts. How much pressure you put on the throttle will effect when it shifts up or down while in D. You don't let off the gas when the tranny is upshifting during normal driving so I don't really see the point in worrying about it any other time. It's JMO but I don't think you're hurting anything one way or the other.
