Only custom exhaust that will beat a name brand is a Custom 3".
But without header and Intake and reflash, S/c or turbo it's not useless but unneccesary.

You can get a 70mm Tsudo exhaust if you want $270.00 shipped and Dyno proven.

first off you need to figure out what you want. I'm assuming its NA so my recommendation is 2.5". Then you need to figure out what universal muffler you want. I got mine here Exhaust - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!! but you can go anywhere. I recommend going onto youtube and listening to the catbacks that use the similar mufflers. You might want a resonator, you might not. you can always have it added later. You might want to get a HFC and have a header back exhaust while your at it, but it sounds like you won't be able to afford that. The muffler shop has the piping so don't worry about that, they may or may not have some flanges, i would call them now and see how much they charge and what all you'll need to get. I got quoted at one place for 2.5" to have it done up for $150, that was before they realized I wanted 3".

I got my custom 3" done with a HFC, all said and done for right at 600, thats cheaper then the cheapest premade catback. They did a awesome job and it really freed up my turbo.

Hey supa ninja thanks thats the help I was looking for but yea I am trying to stay NA so I was thinking to do my piping between 2.5" - 2.75" dont kno if that would make a difference??? And to slow4drsi it looks like supa got it quoted for 150 for the 2.5" piping and I have a friend that has an ep3 n he went to go check out prices and he got quoted around the same with everything welded on and I think it would have been a lil more for install but I can do the install myself

Yeah but only thing that I don't like about custom exhaust is the piping they use, Tsudo is all Stainless and the welds a re awesome. Sometimes if you don't go to a right welder exhaust cracks or weld falls off. I really doubt that you can get a custom exhaust for $150.00

$150.00 is probably just a custom axleback. If you can find a custom exhaust for $150.00 good for you, if you can take the looks of regular weld instead of tig welding, it's still up to you.

I have a custom 2.25 piping with an ebay muffler and it works really good plus it sound nice and loud, now if you want to make it sound nicer add a resonator because you could get a ticket. It only costed me $150 total including the muffler, it's a tip burnt muffer from ebay. I've had it for more than 4 months and been driving the car everyday to see if it's true what people say about custom mufflers but it aint true. It all depends on how you drive your car, it almost seems that people that say ebay stuff don't work is because they drive their cars to the max everyday and it's not really good for your engine.
