just wondering what you guys think about this complete set i could be getting shortly. The reason its all kicker is because its all going to be 50% off, also i could only choose the items that we have at my work.

so heres the set up:

Front Speakers - 08ks650.2
Rear Speakers - 08ks650
Amp for speakers - 08dx200.4
Sub - 10cvr 12" (just one)
Sub Amp - 10dx1000.1

im just going to keep the stock deck for now, if you need to know which car its a 2006 civic ex coupe

how do you plan to integrate to the stock HU??, LOC?, Mercman (or similar) harness. . . or will you just tie in an aftermarket processor and be done with it?? or if you do intend to go with an aftermarket HU any time in the future, do it now and save yourself the trouble

and as for the kit, im not a big fan of kicker at all, but if youre getting it cheap then whats to complain about

Just curious where you work at? My work just recently got a kicker accommodation, 70% off all kicker products though.

OK, blunt and simple then, HOW will you get signal from the stock Head to the amps

do you plan to use an LOC?

do you plan to get a Mercman (or similar custom fabricated) harness to take the balanced differential amp outs from the stock HU?

or will you put in an aftermarket processor to take care of things integrated either before or after the factory amp

OR you can just pick up an aftermarket headunit, install it at the same time and not worry about any of the previously mentioned stuff

welcome to the world of the Civic premium audio system replacement/integration. . . when faced with the same dilema, I just got an aftermarket headunit and called it a day

wtf thats so stupid, i cant just use the stock head unit thats lame, guess im going have to pick up a aftermarket headunit and call it a day

didnt really wanna have to spend the extra money but guess i have too, but for other cars cant you just leave the stock one in???

you can just leave the stock headunit in you just need parts that allow the HU to send proper signal to the amp(s). . . by way of a Line-Out Converter (LOC) after the factory amp, a Mercman harness for the balanced differential Headunit outs before the factory amp (your Kickers are in the handfull of amps thatll support balanced differential right out of the box), or you can wire in an aftermarket processor (Ex. Alpine PXA-H660)

if you dont ever intend to change the headunit go at it one of the latter two ways but if youre ever planning on it you may as well do it now and save yourself the extra install work thatll become useless later, or do the LOC solution as its the cheapest way to do it for future replacement

Cheap LOC is still gonna be cheaper than a cheap deck, ...and it'll still look much more stealth with the stock deck still intact. Cheap aftermarket decks do tend to look really flashy. Theft magnet fosho, ...and it doesn't help we already drive a theft magnet Civic.

No alarm can ever protect a shiny new stereo.

I have one of the best installed stealth security systems with a gps battery backed up system. All wiring is loomed within the factory wiring, exterior and interior sirens are battery backed up and hidden behind panels, main unit is battery backed up and hidden behind panels high in the dash, gps system is seperately battery backed up, seperately hidden, and it takes several bolts to get to, ...and yet I dare not put a shiny aftermarket stereo for fear of a thief breaking in and taking it. Even if I were to also bolt that down as well, best save from the vandalism from any failed theft attempts by keeping the OEM H.U. in.

theres been a 1000 dollar 2DIN in my dash for nearly 2 years (with even a 6 month stint with a blatantly not stock 1DIN) and Ive had no problems with anything, hell sometimes when im lazy Ill leave the rear seat cracked after tuning and leave the car with another 1000 bucks worth of amp exposed, and of course the chrome plated housings on black suede plainly marked "FOCAL" on my A-pillars for all to see at any time, then the easy snatch of a 500 dollar Radar Detector

Ive just got a standard mile-range Viper 2-way, only visible detterent on the car is this rather plain and standard blinking blue light, I use common sense though I excercise due care in different places, bad parts of town vs better neighborhoods, etc. . . but I will take this time to acknowledge that you live in California and Id like to go on the record and say "FVCK California", as much as I love my Hondas I would never buy or own one in that wretched state

Bingo, ...when I bought my Si, the first mod was this self installed stealth security system. I don't even trust some shop to do it for fear of them sending out someone to jack my whip. I know with even this system it won't fully protect my Si and it's still subjected to being stolen by a flatbed. What I am confident with is that the level of security will at least allow me to see those criminals in court. By the time whatever would be thieves finds out that I have a security gps hardwired and battery backed up behind some bolted panels seperately from the main unit, I'll have LEO's already on their way to their chop shop location, ...that is if they even make it that far. I could even have all this done while I'm back home 2500 miles away in the Islands enjoying time with the family.

...but still I wouldn't even give any would be thief the eye candy of a nice stereo sitting pretty in the dash. Heck I'm even 50/50 on putting new wheels. Gotta love Calipornya.

The right installer will know what to do and what to get. Ask around with your local 8th Civic crew what is a reputable shop.
