Dont know much about the cars history, so I have no idea how many miles are on the current struts/springs.. but I bet its a lot. :vtec:

08 civic ex coupe has 220k miles on it, of which I have put the last 80,000 on it in the last 3 years. Runs like a champ.

My goal is to get the alignment in such a way tires wear great and my daily work commute (75 miles) is as enjoyable as possible.

I've compelted the Energy Suspension Master Bushing install, and I have the rear adjustable camber arms in place.

But the struts are done for.. the front top hats rattle and shes got more bounce in the ass end then most strippers. :eek:hsnap:

I have what I believe are 08 civic SI springs(no struts)... Are there any distinguishing marks that will allow me to confirm this? I haven't really looked at them - a friend gave them to me and said he thought they were from an 8th gen SI. Do SI springs lower an EX or no?

What I am looking for - is a good strut and spring option(if I dont use the SI springs). I have been partial to KYB in the past but not not set in stone.

Lastly - camber... do camber bolts really hold true over tons of miles - or are top plates the way to go?

I was looking at Eibach Pro kit, and KYB struts.

Something solid and proven. Just worried about font camber.

I've been on prokit with OEM strut/shocks for almost 3 years, no problem at all. You can also check out truharts shock/struts.

I like the idea of a progressive over linear spring. Softer for the little bumps, but solid when you need it.

I just need to get top hats as mine are shot.

I considered coilovers - but they all have SUCH high spring rates. I want something in the 5-6k range, not 8-14.

I'd also recommend taking the Koni route. We sell many sets and we always have great luck with them!

Koni STR.T (Oranges) are their street shock. These provide improved handling at an affordable price. Whether they're to refresh and upgrade an OEM setup, or to match with street performance lowering springs, they're a good way to keep your setup feeling fresh without killing your wallet.

The Koni Sports (Yellows) offer much improved motion control and adjustability for the weekend warrior track car. These have 20mm of built in adjustability from the spring perch, and adjustable dampeing to allow you to dial in your setup.

My choice would be Monroe or KYB. They make quick struts for the front struts (a complete assembly, strut, spring, etc), so they are very easy to install.

Monroe quick struts and OESpectrum rear shocks
or
KYB Strut Plus struts and GR2/Excel-G rear shocks

Both are on sale until the end of the month. Monroe's rebate is $75, and KYB's is $60.

My experience is Monroe is a downgrade. KYB is halfway decent. I've dyno'd the KYBs and the Konis. The Koni is more digressive in back. The Konis are softer in front but more digressive... the KYB fronts are more linear in low velocity range lots stiffer in medium range so will feel stiffer even though they are more linear. Nod to Koni on the fronts.

Rears are very similar... more similar than different. The only difference is the Koni again has a slightly more digressive nature; so it will perform better in transitions (like slaloms) and is overall the better shock.

So, yes Koni is better. Overall a more digressive shock, more in front than in back, as compared to the KYB. But the KYB is well made and is a good value... and will last a long time. Lifetime warranty on both.

Monroe and KYB are OE replacement, same quality as stock.

In fact, KYB is the OE supplier :)
Some Honda's OEM shocks are KYBs.... I've only ever seen Showa-made 8th Gen shocks though.

But the KYB is very well made. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend then as an OEM replacement.... and often do for someone wanting to save money. But the Koni is still slightly more digressive on the compression side yet linear on the rebound side... like they know what they are doing.... and therefore better in my opinion.

Koni's look nice as best I can tell from ebay, etc. But they are expensive compared to the KYBs.

Remember.. this car isnt tracked, it isnt drag'd(sweet jesus its the slowest car ive ever owned) .. its just there for miles and more miles.

For daily driving, KYB and Monroe are just fine. Especially since both companies make quick struts for them, which makes the install super easy!

KYB is better quality, but Monroe still isn't bad at all. If you can afford the KYB, get them. But if money is extra tight, Monroe. But if you're asking whether KYB is worth the extra dollars, the answer is yes.

KYB comes to about $360 before rebate, $300 after rebate
Monroe comes to about $285 before rebate, $210 after rebate
(remember the 5% discount if buying from Rock Auto!)

But you should order them soon, as their rebates expire in 10 days! (As long as you order them by April 30, you'll still qualify, even if you receive them after. It's the order/purchase date that counts). In fact, it's the biggest rebate KYB has ever offered.

I also found a complete set of OEM shocks and springs on eBay for about $700, from a Honda dealer. The front struts are complete assemblies in this kit.

I'm to new to this forum to post links.. but there are several full kits on ebay that have front, and rear, including front mounts for $370-380. My front mounts are shot and rattle.

I like the eibach proline for just a hair of a drop - i just worry they will wreak havoc on the KYB Excel-G struts.

Those honda HFP setup looks nice.

That seems like it would almost be the exact same as the KYB+eibach setup.. only about $100 cheaper.

im guessing their probably about the same in end result?

Since you can't post links, just post the eBay item numbers

Remember that the OEM setup I linked you comes fully assembled. And yes, probably the same end result.

And the KYB and Monroe part numbers I gave you earlier are also fully assembled and include the mounts. (although they would be stock original height)

Also keep in mind that your worn original springs may have sagged as well, possibly giving you about the same height as brand new lowering springs.
