Looks great! I think that I will wait for the 50D or maybe even 60D though, my 20D is still a great camera, I LOVE IT!

Price should be pretty good, but probably will still be a bit high. I just got my 30D for sub 900. :thumb:

Oh man, I'm jealous about the dust vibrator.... Not to mention the motor driven mirror actuator.

I also made some observations on the Canon Crew thread:

According to Ken Rockwell's site (kenrockwell.com), Canon made a few announcements today:

Ken Rockwell said:
Canon 40D, 6.5FPS, 10MP, 3" LCD, $1,299, September 2007.
Canon 1Ds Mk III (5FPS, 21MP, 3" LCD, $6,999)
14mm f/2.8L II (October 2007, $2,199)
18-55mm EF-S IS (October 2007, $199)

Canon also introduced several new compacts:

G9 (12MP, 6x IS, $499).
SD950 (12MP, 3.7x IS, 2.5" LCD, $450) pocket ELPH.
SD870 (8MP, 3.8x wide zoom IS, 3" LCD, $399) Pocket ELPH.
SX100 (8MP, 10x IS, 2.5" LCD, $299).
A650 IS (12MP, 6x IS, 2.5" LCD, $399, September).
A720 IS (8MP, 6x IS, $249, September).
8800F Flatbed Scanner, 4,800 DPI, $199.
LiDE90 Flatbed Scanner, 2,400 DPI, $79.
Besides the announcements of the 40D and the 1Ds, I noticed the low-priced A720 IS. Damn, cameras are just getting cheaper and cheaper for the technology that gets thrown in. An 8 MP sensor, 6X zoom (I assume 6X optical) and image stabilization for a price point of only $250! Great! Expect it to go for $199 or lower a few months after release, then snatch it up. :thumb:

If you're impressed by the 3" LCD screen, don't be.

Ken Rockwell said:
LCD: 3", 230,000 pixels. It's interesting to note that that is the same resolution as the 2.5" LCDs of the Rebel XTi, Canon 30D, Canon SD850 and Nikon D40, D40x, D80 and D200. A 3" LCD is 20% bigger in linear dimension than a 2.5" LCD, thus with the same resolution, a 3" LCD has 20% less linear resolution. In simple English, this 3" LCD shows the same detail and information as today's 2.5" LCDs, just bigger.
That means pictures displayed on the screen will appear sharper on a 2.5" screen on your XTi, 30D or even your P&S SD850 than the new 3" screen. And with more deadspace, the larger screen would probably appear less bright than their 2.5" counterparts.

That 3" screen is going on the new 40D and the new $7,000 1Ds.

The brightness and sharpness are just my own speculations. We shall see what it actually looks like when the interwebz produces some hands-on reviews.

id like to get some opinions, would it be worth selling my 3 week old 30D body with around 1000 clicks and my 300D with kit lens with god knows how many clicks to try to get a 40D or not. Some of the features theyve added intrigue me (especially the new AF sensor configurations)

I would say if you can sell your 30D for a decent price, do it. You will be dreading and killing yourself for not waiting 3 more weeks for the 40. Unless of course the loss is too much

Just enjoy your 30D, shoot photos and learn your craft. Buy more lenses and then upgrade your body later. I had my D60 for almost 5years before I upgraded my body. There will always be something better (Like FULL FRAME) later.
