Howdy. The tensioner piece where the I would put a wrench on and push to relieve tension on the belt (for removal) has broken and there's not enough left for a wrench to get a bite.

Does anybody have tips on how I can relieve belt tension without this method?

I need to replace the alternator, and now, the tensioner assembly.

Cut the belt, but be very cautious since the tensioner is under load.

Remove the tensioner bolt ( under the alternator)

I guess I need to replace the tensioner anyway so I should just cut the belt, replace tensioner, replace alternator, put on new belt?

If so, am I really going to have to drop the engine to get at the tensioner bolt? Man, this turned into a bit of work for my driveway.

Some people have successfully been able to remove the pivot bolt without dropping the engine, but it is recommended to drop the engine a bit to have more space.
