Hey guys, my 205,000 mile 2006 ex has been leaking oil since I bought it used two yrs ago. I replaced my valve cover gasket, but that wasn’t it. Well today I had a shop run a dye check to see where the leak is coming from.

They said it’s a blown head gasket. They showed me where the oil is collecting and it’s in the back lower section of the motor.

My question is, could this be my issue? Car isn’t leaking coolant or running hot. Drives perfectly normal outside of leaking oil and only oil. I got a quote of $350 by local mechanic to replace head gasket, so it’s not bad but I don’t want to open up the motor unless it’s a must. Thanks in advance!

Yes, a blown head gasket can cause and oil leak.

How much oil has it been leaking per month?

I think I've got the same problem on my 2006 Si with 138k.

My car is probably losing 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart per month.

Mine is losing about the same as yours, 1/2 per month.

My 07 had a mystery leak for awhile after buying it new. Turned out to be the timing chain case cover was leaking. It allowed oil to spread out over the head/block area, and to the lower part of the engine.

It was common enough problem that honda created a service bulletin for it.

I would definitely check that before doing any other work.
