It was a usual day for me today. As I was heading back home from work, my car sounded as if it back-fired when I shifted into third gear going up a hill. I have a CAI, and for a moment I thought my intake blew up or something because I hear the loud air suction and all of a sudden a loud pop.

Could there be anything wrong as I speak. I tried to duplicate it again but nothing happened.

*I wonder if I spitted flames!!:eek:hnoes:

Flame in exhaust = afterfire
Flame out of intake = backfire

I think that what the OP is describing is afterfire and it's really nothing to worry about. It just means that your AFR was rich for whatever reason and some unburned fuel burned in your exhaust pipe, I doubt it caused flames if you still have the cat.

A daily occurrence in catless turbocharged vehicles...

It's not backfire. Its the air entering the exhaust when you let off the throttle. Or unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.

edit: ooops beat me to it.
