It's a 45 series sidewall, I guess you consider it low-profile. The summer tires are the same. The 18" HFP wheels and tires are definately low profile.

Why?

just curious. i saw a pic of a stock si next to a "regular car" and the regular car looked like it had a kids pool tube for tires.

Low profile tires are STUPID in every way. Small wheels and big sidewalls are always better. I thought it would just be a fad 20 years ago, but no, fragile aluminum wheels that bend on the tiniest potholes and cost over $500 to replace, coupled with pieces of tape for tires, still seems to be all the rage. So now we all have cars that vibrate over 60mph, all the time. Idiots.

after the stock tires on the si wear out, what are nice tires to be looking for?
I have 235/40/17 in replacement of my stock tires, IMO it serves its purpose. wider=more grip, but the michelin exalto pe2 HPT are more quality.

lol. ok. too bad you didnt post a pic of the front. if you saw how wide a F1 tire is youd see they are really quite low in profile:

your just getting decepted by the fact that you dont expect the tire to bee so big and wide. some pics of tire that are the same size as normal car tires:

you can barley see the tire:

Guys are you forgetting rotational inertia? If a 17 and an 18 rim weigh exactly the same the 17 is still easier to turn. As for the rim size F1 is the pinnacle of motor sports, the whole car is function, if they want to run smaller rims then it is for a reason. those touring cars could probably get away with it. But in F1 everyone is separated by hundredth of a second and every small detail counts for alot
