Sorry if this is the wrong section for this, but I just picked up a Kicker Comp 12". Very last minute decision! My car (2008 LX) is already wired complete with RCA convertor. I was wondering what kind of amp I could pick up for this that would give me a quality sound and would be somewhat wallet-friendly.

It's not the sickest sub and the max RMS is only 150. I'm considering getting a stronger amp than what I need so I can be able to get new subs (later on) without having to buy a new amp. I read somewhere that buying a higher powered amp and turning down the gains would help keep a lower-wattage sub from being damaged. Is this true?

I actually have that exact same sub, I paired it with this amp :
Car Audio wholesale distributor Alpine Pioneer HID Lights Clarion Hifonics Kenwood Boss - Ikesound.com - Kicker ZX150.2, Kicker 2 Ch 150 Watt ZX Series Amplifier

It's been discontinued (still available online though) but matches perfectly to this sub and sounds great, just make sure the sub isnt in too big of a box and it will sound good. The amp gives plenty of juice for that sub and you don't have to worry about blowing it. If you want a bigger amp just be careful not to turn it up too much on that sub, but IMHO that sub with that amp is all I will ever need for bass.
