Sounds promising, I dont undertand why they haven't already briought some cars like that to the US I assume it's emmisions stuff or they don't want to compete against themselves by having a focus with mustang v6 like performance.

Emissions and the car would be insanely expensive here.

Since the article says the engine is going into the next gen Mustang as well...I assume only the latter will be an issue then.

pretty sure ford already said the next gen mustang base will be a 4 cylinder turbo. I think the gt might even be a v6 turbo'd... also they planned on changing the styling drastically wanted to shape it in a more modern look, rather than keeping the retro design. I have a feeling a lot of people will hate it at first, but grow to love it.

Fords 80's 2.3 turbo was found in:

84-86 SVO
84-88 TBird Turbo Coupe & Cougar
84-89 Merkur XR4Ti

Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
There were 4-cylinder Turbo Mustangs starting in '79, but they didn't build the SVO until '84.

hmm 320 to the front? wonder how much torque steer will be left after that
The current Focus RS is famous for it's relative LACK of torque steer due to it's Revoknuckle front suspension geometry.

I'll never be able to afford it. However I am eyeing a 2013 Focus St with Recaro seats.:badger:

But if Honda announces it has a refresh for 2014 I think I'll hold off to see what they come up with. Still don't trust a Ford compared to a Honda.

I'll take reliability over speed any day.

They're reliable cars. It isn't the 90's anymore.

I feel like a lot of people are disillusioned into thinking that if it goes fast, it'll most likely randomly explode so it's best to stick with something that's slower.

Both the new V6 and V8's (5.8 SC in the next GT500) are complete new design, doubt they would change so soon. The 5.0 is set up for DI and I see that as the next move for the 5.0. The GT500 motor is going from 5.4 to 5.8 next model year.
I forsee a 475ish HP 5.0 for the next gen Mustang. They are already getting 500 whp out of the 5.0 NA.

An "EcoBoost" 4 in the next mustang seem like a logical step for Ford both in terms of mpg and marketing. Maybe the T4 is the base engine, then a V6, then the 5.0, then the GT500. Give them all DI and we have our cake made of HP and MPG.

Easier to go V6 ecoboost 350 hp base car, DI GT 5.0 475hp and GT500 5.8 SC 650hp

My 11' 5.0 with 373 gears gets 27 mpg highway

The V6 EcoBoost is too close in power to the V8 and would eat into sales of the GT. Plus, 27mpg highway (and the mpg of the V6 eco) isn't going to help meet the up coming 35mpg CAFE standards (or Europe's CO2 standards). With that in mind, the T4 base car is the most logical choice. Ford might even eliminate the V6 altogether like they will in the '13 Fusion.
