I purchased an 07 EX in 2018, just a year after the warranty expired. When i went looking for recalls for this Honda Civic Ex the cracking block problem never turned up anywhere. I never thought to look up extended warranties. There were no recalls of any kind for this vehicle at the time i purchased this car. I was not until after the block cracked while at a wedding 4 states away that it broke. causing so many issues with getting family to airports 4 states away and no way to get them to one.

The mechanics thought it was the water pump, and replaced the water pump, coolant, new oil and filter and it still kept leaking. That is when he found the cracked block. After looking up coolant problems under warranty and recalls we found extended warranty. So I decided to contact Honda.

When I called corporate Honda, I told them that i did not even own the car during the warranty period. This was a HONDA manufacturing defect and Honda should be responsible for every block cracking problem They said sorry you are a fourth owner and you never brought this vehicle in to a Honda dealer, in fact this car only saw the dealer when it was purchased and had its yearly maintenance on it but since the second owner this car was never taken to a Honda dealer again and that leaves you unwarranted. There is nothing more I can do for you on this subject.

Takes care of it religiously and drives conservatively.

It must be a Honda Civic "republican Christian" model. Sounds like the only thing missing is putting a face mask over the air intake filter and exhaust to prevent possible covid spread.

But for real, yeah I would say if the block were going to crack for no reason, it would have done so long ago. Even if it does, I would say at 291,000 miles you got your money's worth at least.

My 08 is at 84,000 miles so time will tell. Mileage is so low cause the last owner bought it in 2014 and just didn't drive much.
I have a 2008 Civic with 79,000 miles, it belonged to my elderly mother. She gave it to me a few months ago. She wasn't driving much because of health issues.

No issues with coolant loss.

I did recently change the auto transmission fluid. It was dark (grayish brown), with a fair amount of metal sludge on the drain plug magnet.

At the second drain and fill, about a week later, the trans fluid was improving, to a grayish pink, with little residue on the magnet.

I plan on doing one more drain and fill of the transmission fluid, and then it should be closer to a cherry red.

I don't know why more owners don't change the transmission fluid - it's even easier than an oil change.

It is just not something most people think about. You see and hear commercials all the time about oil changes but never trans or other fluids or service. I imagine these shops probably charge a mint for the trans fluid change and that likely scares off some customers.
