07 civic crank no start

Hey, so to sum up my problem, this past friday i had trouble starting my car but eventually it started up no problem, later that day i had an issue again with the car starting my temperature gauge never read anything over half when the car was turned off, but when i went to start it up it showed my car was running hot, now my car will crank but not start, there is a buzz sound coming from near where my left foot sits if key is slowly turned over, checked exhaust smells like gasoline and it does so it doesn't seem to be a fuel issue, I've seen a lot of videos about problems similar to mine but cant find anything that is exactly the same as mine, hoping to find some help here

To get the discussion started...

What is the mileage and general history of your car? Car driven gently or hard? Any mods?

Check coolant level. Any history of coolant loss?

Check compression. 135 is about minimum to start engine. 170 is good. Imbalance between cylinders can cause engine to not start. Low compression could mean a blown head gasket which may also explain loss of coolant and hot running.

Check for spark and fouled plugs.

Compression and spark testing tools are easy to use and are available at most auto parts stores.

Check fuel pressure although you believe fuel is not the problem and the sound you hear when you turn the key to on may be the fuel pump priming. That sound usually comes from the rear of the car. I personally have not checked fuel pressure but there are lots of videos available. Or search this and other Civic sites.

Here is a link to a similar problem. Unfortunately the issue was not resolved.

My recommendation will either be the most simple, amazing solution or just something that doesn't work. You say it buzzes when you turn the key, would you say it is coming from the area where the VSA button is? It is possible the ignition switch has gone out and just needs replaced. I do recommend everything henry said up there, but it could be just a small issue like this. These tend to go out around 150-170k miles. Might be worth replacing as it is only 25$ and could be the culprit.

Good one, tombid! Definitely worth checking for an easy fix. Might be a good idea to keep one of these in the glove box. Here is a DIY vid.

This may have been a recall. You can check your vehicle at this link:

And here is an article about it.

Try your ignition switch
