Oh, he can drive. He's been driving since he was like 12. (in the country of course) He has is learners permit and will soon be getting his hardship, until he turns 16 in March. Like I said, he has driven a car with much more horsepower (although to the rear-wheels) in the past.

Yeah, I've planned on putting the keys in a box under the tree. The blinds will be closed and when he looks outside... there it will be, with a big red bow on top. You know, when you have kids you always dream about days like this. For once, it's going to actually happen. Now we just need to work on that acceptance into Harvard or maybe Annapolis. haha

K-Pro is Hondata

and they are not "easier to tune" with set maps....because set maps are just that, set, flashes and not tuneable.
u must have mistaken me for a n00b...

i know K-Pro is Hondata :pat:

u also misunderstood what i said...what i meant was those cars already have set tunes from Hondata that u can put on the ECU, hence y i said "easy to tune" b/c all u have to do is send it to an authorized dealer and have them put the map on there...

ohh and they can also add a VAFC to this car to tune it even more...

I didnt mistake you for one...you sound like one.

Hondata does not have an endless list of reflashes available. Show me where there is such a reflash or as you call it a "set tune" for a k20/24 frank. Here is the reflash page for the K series:
K-Series Reflash
I dont see any there at all for franks of any kind, probably because there are just too many combos out there to R&D for retail.

VAFC is very limited in it's capabilities (you can't adjust cam angles, etc). K-Pro is a fully programmable ECU which can do far more than VAFC. You can not "tune it even more" with anything else.

I am not trying to be a ****, it just sounds like you have just enough information to get yourself into an arguement you will lose.

Sorry for the threadjack post.

1st please don't attack mods as noobs...the are here to help...

second when you order your hondata through the dealer, they generally ask you what your running...Hondata sets base maps in the ecm, so the car can start, etc, no means perfect but a start...

vafc would suffice to make a k20/k24 hybrid...look on k20a.org

all your doing is adding more fuel...would k-pro be better 100%...but it can be done with vafc...

my 420 post...time to burn...

It's pretty damn cool you found a deal like this in central Texas, and in corsicana of all places!! Im from mexia, so I'm familiar with that area. Oh, and a word of advice. Keep an eye on him if he starts going to waco late on fri-sat nights (after 1am). When I was living there, street racing was a problem and I'm sure everyone would hate to see your kid end up in jail or worse.

Congrats on the ride though, I'd love to stop by and see it if I'm in that neck of the woods again!

the talk about the Hondata/tuning stuff is not considered off topic b/c the OP is interested in more info on this swap... this stuff is totally relevant and on topic...

JoePa it sounds like u think u have enough info on me to want to start an argument... but the fact is if i'm wrong i'll admit it... what ur saying is that u can't start off with a K24 reflash and tune it slightly with a VAFC??? i believe that statement there is wrong... please research if u think i'm wrong about that b/c although i haven't looked online i have friends with K24/K20 swaps that has done this...

it's ok to threaten my knowledge on something but don't try to prove that ur the all knowing guru on any one subject b/c there's always sum1 there that will pwn anything u say...

First off, in this thread I told the TS to seek help from K-Pro gurus. Never once mentioning myself as one. I have personal experience with Hondata, both reflashes and K-Pro. But that does not make me a professional tuner nor a guru. I never said anything like that.
Secondly, I was referencing K-Pro vs VAFC...not the reflash. There is really no point to run both the reflash and VAFC (unless ofcourse you are trying to save $). But you will get more out of K-Pro then either of them or both of them together (with a good tuner).
Finally, I was not trying to insult you or your "knowlegde". Go back and read your posts. You were saying that reflash alone was available for the K24 frank. I was just trying to make the TS understand that you can not tune flashes. That's it. Sorry if I came across rude, the internets does not make voice inflection and body language easy to read.

I just bought my son an '02 Si for Christmas. It's his dream car. He doesn't know yet... He's not getting it until Christmas morning.
I bought the car from a wholesaler that advertises on Autotrader.com. When I went to look at the car I could tell that it had been hit in the front. Someone replaced both front fenders with ones that have vents on the side. I figure that's a modification that he'll really like! There were other signs that it had been in an accident as well. But since it drove very well, looked really clean, and was bargain priced at $5995, I bought the car. The only thing I could find wrong with the car is that is seems like the sync may be going out because it makes a slight grinding noise when you shift into 6th gear. That's right... SIXTH GEAR! I came home and started reading all the reviews for the car and they were all 'glowing' just as I had expected. But it occured to me that they all mentioned a 5-speed transmission. Thinking it may have been an option, I did somo more research. Nope... not an option. Something isn't right. The motor is the 2.0, but I'm just not sure it's the right 2.0. How can I tell what the motor and transmission came out of?
Also, There is a couple of little things the car needs. It's missing the Si badge on the front grille, the V-TEC emblems on the side (since it has been repainted), and the motor cover that says v-tec. Any idea where is the best place to find these things, other than ebay? I've looked on ebay and can't find any of them except the side decals.

Thanks,

Maury

i have been a memeber of EPhatch for a long time.... if its an RSX motor and tranny its not uncommon although it would requir either kpro or the stock PRB ecu. if itthe tranny on a k20a3 thawoulde a disaster cause iny shift the car would fall out of its power band. just a reanny swap would not work on a EP it would require a litlle more than just a tranny replacement. also the shift assembly would have had to have been modified by cutting a particular notch which is what i had to do when i had done my swap on my 04 EP so i could put in reverse.

trust me you would know for sure something is up if thats the case.

If anyone is a "noob" here, it's me!!! Three days ago I thought I had bought and unmolested Civic Si for my son. Since then I've learned that I bought a Civic with a motor pieced together (hence the term 'frankenstein'?) with parts from other Hondas. I'm sure my son will think it's pretty cool. I'm just hoping that he will still be able to get another 100K out of the car. Maybe there wasn't any internal work done on the motor and it's still got the factory guts. The salesman never called me back with the guys name that traded it in. So I may not be able to get the car's 'life story'.
