'02 Civic Si... six speed?

I just bought my son an '02 Si for Christmas. It's his dream car. He doesn't know yet... He's not getting it until Christmas morning.
I bought the car from a wholesaler that advertises on Autotrader.com. When I went to look at the car I could tell that it had been hit in the front. Someone replaced both front fenders with ones that have vents on the side. I figure that's a modification that he'll really like! There were other signs that it had been in an accident as well. But since it drove very well, looked really clean, and was bargain priced at $5995, I bought the car. The only thing I could find wrong with the car is that is seems like the sync may be going out because it makes a slight grinding noise when you shift into 6th gear. That's right... SIXTH GEAR! I came home and started reading all the reviews for the car and they were all 'glowing' just as I had expected. But it occured to me that they all mentioned a 5-speed transmission. Thinking it may have been an option, I did somo more research. Nope... not an option. Something isn't right. The motor is the 2.0, but I'm just not sure it's the right 2.0. How can I tell what the motor and transmission came out of?
Also, There is a couple of little things the car needs. It's missing the Si badge on the front grille, the V-TEC emblems on the side (since it has been repainted), and the motor cover that says v-tec. Any idea where is the best place to find these things, other than ebay? I've looked on ebay and can't find any of them except the side decals.

Thanks,

Maury

nice find... im sure ur kid is gonna be super happy :p
It sounds like your kid is going to get one heck of a ride. I'm guessing k20/24 hybrid (k20 head and k24 block).
If someone took the time and money to do this you can bet its not a stock motor. Go to the dyno and post a graph.

Btw: post some pictures of it. Use photobucket or something free...
Dang! I was assuming that it was just a 'swap' with a TSX since it is coupled with a 6-speed transmission. So, since the block is a crv/element block and the tranny is a 6-speed (out of either a rsx-s or tsx) there has likely been some other engine mods other than just the header. Oh, well, so much for the factory sealed reliability I thought I was getting. Rather than go to the trouble of pulling the valve cover, there is an envelope in the glove box with information on the previous owner. I think I'll just call him up and ask him what the deal is with the motor.

as far as I know, no one makes a kit for the tsx tranny in an 02 civic si (ep3)...the housing is much larger than that of a rsx, so they pretty much don't fit w/o alot of modifying...not worth trouble...

so you can rule that out...

if you blew a k20a3, a k24a1 would be a cheaper upgrade than replacing the stock motor...and its a direct replacement...

there is a kid around here (NH) who did that...the torque helps alot...
No luck locating the previous owner. Swapping the motor would make sense. But where did they come by the 6-speed? I guess I'll have plenty of time to figure out exactly what is in the car after I've given it to my son. I'm sure he'll do it for me. One thing's for sure... it runs like a spotted-ass-ape!!! haha
I tood some pictures and I'll post them shortly.
Thanks for everyone's help. I appreciate it!!!
In for pics. Nice find btw.
Yeah, what a find. I hope everything in the motor is good to go. Sounds like the car was clipped in the front end due to the damage and a swap was done. Youll have to find out what head is on there... and dyno it.
If I Can Figure Out How To Post Pictures!!!!
Somebodys doing a k24 swap into a FG2 (06+ Si Coupe) as we speak.

thats a k20 head, it doesn't have the water outlet built into the intake manifold like the k24's do...

Good find.
