I told my step dad about the Volt kit from Xeneondepot because I wanted some HID's, but he went and ordered them for me without my knowledge. He said he got 8000K bulbs. Is that too bright? What are the legal limits on HID's and will I get pulled over?

the best light output is between 4300k-6000k. anything above, you're sacrificing light output. IMO 8000k ( definitely can see blue) in reflector housing are a cop magnet, but it also depends on your area. i chose to go with 6000k in my celica stock low beams(projectors). the color is called crystal white. more white with very hint of blue.

Hansy, why don't you try talking to Steve here from XenonDepot. He's very friendly :) Hopefully they haven't sent/processed the order yet.
yeah contact steve here on 8th and im sure if you give him your order number he will be able to change the bulbs out....8k might look really good but prone to be a cop magnect.....imo 5k is the best but anything between 4300k and 6k is good.

good luck

The reality is that any HID kit is going to be rediculously bright because the OEM housings are designed to reflect a much lower amount of light.

You'll be pissing people off with even a 4k kit.
As usual, testify is on the money.

The 8000 K refers to the color temp. In this case, it will be blue.
The headlight is what determines the beam pattern. In this case it will be annoying glare.

i got 43ks and yellow fogs and i get beamed left and right lol
That is because OEM headlights aren't ideal for HID's. You need to aim them down if you keep getting flashed like that.
OP, it has been said, the higher temp doesn't mean brighter. The more blue the light is, the less visibility you will have as the dark blue light doesn't contrast as well in the dark.

yeha i have 10k with projectors and i get high beamed every night and got pulled over once already by the pigs
Really? Do you really need to call them pigs? I may not be in Law Enforcement, but I'm close to finishing my degree in Criminal Justice and have done an internship with a local department. You were pulled over because you did illegal modifications to your headlight. However, most officers do not even know headlight modifications are illegal and usually let you pass. But you had a light output that was far different than that of anyone else on the road. Blue is irritating for oncoming traffic whether you care or not. You deserved to be pulled over and hopefully ticketed. I would of written you a ticket in a heartbeat for that. At 10K, it's not about safety or lighting, but rather you think you're "cool". The light output on 10K is awful. If you want HID's, do it for the lighting or don't drive the vehicle at night and let it be a show car.

On a side note, what kind of projectors? Were they retrofitted or cheap eBay projectors? I'm running a 4300K with TSX projectors and no officer would be able to tell the difference from stock. Did you possibly have them aimed wrong? Because either way, you deserved it.
