so if its a chain....when do you have to change the chain?
Never. As long as you keep it properly lubricated (ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR OIL AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER) your timing chain will never need replacement.

Timing chains were around before belts, but belts are quieter, which is why Honda used them for so long. The only car I've ever seen with a broken timing chain was a Nissan Altima (94-95 or so) with about 360,000 miles.

For the K20Z3 (Si):

Measure the tensioner rod length between the tensioner body and bottom of the flat surface section on the tensioner rod. If the length is more than the service limit, replace the cam chain and the oil pump chain.

Tensioner Rod Length Service Limit:
13.5 mm (0.53 in.)

Such a wiseass... :D

Like I said, it's not part of scheduled maintenance, and I doubt you'll have the car long enough for the chain to stretch.

Like that's such an eaassssyyy thing to do haha

Yeah, no kidding. I can just imagine someone wondering how they are to know when to replace the cam chain. Then they read the service manual, and after reading, they go to the car and look at the timing chain case cover. Then all you hear is, "FFFFFF UUUUUUUU!!!!" lol

super long time. like 200k.
recommended service check interval is 150,000 miles. Check is detailed as below, with replacement as necessary.
