Ok well... fellas it looks like we're gonna have to get a Brazilian in on this, lol.

I've talked with AHMC, a local dealer in NC, and even called Honda Brazil in Sau Paulo! And well... considering I'm just a dumb american, and can't speak a lick of spanish, much less portuguese (I had my fingers crossed that they had a button option for "english" - no such luck).

I think I'ma need at least a portuguese speaking individual to find a part # for us.

i ran into the language barrier as well when i was researching a flex fuel sender too. babel fish was useless as well. someone fluent in portugese thats familiar with civics would be the key to this mystery. Or figure out a english speaking country that uses ethanol, there has got to be one.

^ yea I knew about that.

Already PM-ed at least 3 assumed-to-be portuguese speakers here. We'll see if they'll lend a hand.

^ Awesome!

Pedro informed me though that the only 'flex-fuel' civics that accept ethanol are the R18 LXL and LXS trims.

Nick, you have any idea if either of these will work? I mean all the USDM civics use the same part # for the meter (Edit - 17047-SNA-A30), so I would hope that even a non-si meter from a Brazilian model would work as well.

Another thing is consearning me is this:

1-) Did Honda make or send any "flex-fuel" Civic unit to US market?
If the answer is NO, are you guys running with Ethanol in a car developed only to run with petrol?
2-) Or....did Honda make or send any "Pure Ethanol" Civic unit to US market?

Nope, no ethanol prepped civics have been sold here.

But if the brazilian flex fuel LXL/LXS's meters share the same dimensions as our USDM ones, then we should be able to use them.

there is only one difference with the fuel cages between r18's and Si's, the r18's have higher psi FPRs...everything else is identical. So you'll need a brazilian flex fuel r18 "meter".

pedro- ya we have been using ethanol in petrol setups with modifications to the fuel senders. If we could use a brazilian fuel level sender then we wouldn't have any corrosion issues. Honda only made the flex-fuel civics for the Brazilian market, you guys are the lucky ones. Here in the states E85 is just starting to become abundant and hasn't really caught on yet.

I got it...

Just one thing you should keep in mind.
Ours Flex-Fuel Civics has two gas tanks.
The bigger one is the main one. About 14,5 gal. (for both fuels)
The small one is about 0,13gal (for petrol only)
Why????

The small one we call "Cold weather engine start tank".
When we use 100% ethanol on the main tank, in cold temperatures (cold menas less than 53F), the ethanol has more dificulties to catch on fire and make the engine works.
Therefore, this small tank, inject every single time you turn the ignition on, a bit of petrol, in order to start the engine smoothly.
When the main tank has more than 10% of petrol in the mixture, this mix is good enough to start the engine with no help of the small tank.

The point is that both tanks speak to each other thanks to the Injection Central .
I'm just a little bit worried about: how your cars do not have this small tank and your Injection Central it's not programed to work on flex fuel (and ours, yes...), my fuel sender may not comunicate properly with your injection central.

Think about it and check if my thought is right or wrong.

Nevertheless, sorry for my english. Ain't good as i would like to.

we only have E85 available at the pumps and in the winter time they mix more petrol in it for hard starting issues. These guys will just have to pay attention and pump a gallon of gas in with the ethanol at fill up if they are in a cold climate and have cold start issues.

Guys...

My fears became truth...
This device do not works with Petrol Civics. Only those already Flex.
Nevertheless, if you want to take a risk, there is the part numbers:

Number Bosch: 1.587.410.742
Number Honda: F 000 TE1 12M -7H1 / 17047SNZ 0000

In time: the cost for it in Brazil is about US$40,00
In time 2: here we have some pictures of it

Hope it helps!!!

Needing anything else, just call me

Thanks alot Pedro!

Nick - Here it is: http://www.bosch.com.br/br/autopecas...Dvel_Bosch.pdf

Listed in that PDF as "F000 TE1 12M"

(Can't see if this is just the same picture that Pedro posted - as I can't see pics here at work)

But that's obviously a little different that what I remember ours looking like on the Si's.

That does look quite a bit different ... It appears that all they did was enclose the circuit board with the pick up in an encasing to seal it from coming in contact with the fuel in the tank.

Sounds like someone should just dunk their fuel senders in something hehe.

Exactly what I thought.

But what I still can't definitively determinie is whether fuel acutally enters the plastic encasing. I mean there is two fittings at the top of the unit that LOOKS like fuel could enter there if not capped off or connected to ______ (something)? But if in fact the fuel does enter that casing, what I'd really like to see is the actual meter, in hopes that its at least CLOSE to the same dimensions as our meters.

I'll sit around an wait to see what those smarter than myself think.

I would imagine that it may be a one way valve to allow fuel or air to escape the casing I can't imagine they would waste te energy/money to encase the sender but allow fuel to enter itentionally... Seems like it would defeat the purpose BUT obviously I can't say definitively as I havnt looked at it up close
