bboy- maybe since neither of us were using checkvalves on the EVAP, if it was humid out then the moisture could have gotten "blown" into the fuel tank. thats another theory i have.

Reason I ask is cause a little birdie told me they have no problems with the sender and ethanol, and mentioned something about epoxy...

I was under the impression that you'd need to epoxy the entire range of electrical contact "ticks" on the meter itself to truly e-proof it?

So, am I hearing this right, that really the only piece that needs epoxy are the contact points for the black and yellow wires?

(I really need to break out that S. American fuel meter )

this past weekend, i was clearing out my trunk and i notice that there were liquid in the area where the spare tire is. it seems like the e85 leaked out? the tool that screws down and hold the spare in place was corroded and i had to break it off.

i will see if i can take a picture of it tonight.

Maybe just normal water, moisture and it just rusted. I am pretty sure you would of smelt gas in your car while driving it around if it was leaking that bad.

By the way you want to check your window seals, and the vent thats close to the bumper area, and maybe have to reseal perimeter of that plastic piece with black silicon.

my trunk is leaking too. dude if it is e85 it will smell like a wine-o has been living in there for a month and ethanol evaporates really quick so if it is e85 then its from a fresh leak and i have no idea how it could get into your spare tire well.

Make sure your cage is screwed all the way tight and your EVAP is plugged all the way on, check your fuel line too.

Eeew... this thread has made me sad.
I used E85 for about a month last summer to work on proper tuning with it, and my fuel gauge is one bar down, and upon the tank getting to the 2-3 bar range, the level does "vary" back and forth, which has gotten annoying. Frankly, it's unfortunate, but keep your tank filled more than halfway and you'll never need a worry.

Been following this thread - good information on E85 on the pros and cons but the cons of destroying something the car needs to run isn't worth the extra mile for me. If this happens to get a whole new fuel line of accesories for repairs, I'm sticking with regular premium 93.

I've been using E85 for 9 months and the fuel sender finally gave out. I still don't regret it though

btw, i took the fuel assembly out, but couldn't really tell what was corroded. what exactly do i need to replace? when you buy the new meter, does it come with the black/yellow wire only? what else does it come with? would it be better to replace the whole cage?

I was thinking that epoxy would work similar to when they dip circuit boards for water proofing.

What kind of cost is involved for the new meter? Thats definately something to consider if in fact it does fail in about a years time. ? for people running e85.

Have you ever let your car sit for more tan a few weeks and have problems? I have always been very interested in running e85 but its not my dd so might not be a good idea...Could heet be a good alternative?

Also I talked ith a local tuner and he said the variance in the ethanol % varies alot even during specific seasons and recommends meters to measure that...problem is that the system is very expensive for al the components. Maybe the quality suffers n my region??(Ohio)

No need to replace the whole cage.

I don't believe the meters come with leads of any kind (don't believe they're neccessary), but its been a second since I've taken my fuel cage out and looked at everything, so I could be wrong about the leads.

Worse comes to worst, you'd just need to resolder the black and yellow leads to the meter.
