thinking of trading my car...

I have a 2010 CBP SI. Mileage is somewhere around 40k and I would venture to say it is in fairly mint condition.
My question is what trade in value would be based on "stock" upgrades the car has which are:
- HFP lip kip (front/back/sides)
- HFP wheels (18") and
- Navi/Bluetooth/Handsfree
Also, if discovered, how much a cracked fog light and cracked window visor would impact price.

I would check out Kelly blue book for trade in values it will give you an accurate estimate. Why are you thinkin of trading it in?

KBB doesn't have HFP options listed... I have priced it that way already. I will need something bigger, and while I owe less than it is worth (even trade in value) I have been playing with the idea of getting a Lexus IS 250 (hope to start adding to my family and can't imagine rear-facing child seat in the back of the coupe).

You could try edmunds or other websites like that... my mom has an IS250, they are great cars.

Trade in value is going to be the dealers "black book" value. That is-- the dealers will give you whatever their auction value of the car is... when I was going to trade my car in, it was a consistent number across all dealers. You can haggle this but no matter what, they're going to just tack it on to the price of your new car.

They are NOT going to give you extra for anything except possibly the navi since that was a factory option (assuming you have factory navigation). If they tell you they'll give you more for the HFP underbody kit and wheels, they're lying and they'll make up the difference on the sale of your next car.

Selling privately is really the way to go. Private parties WILL consider those extras and you will get something for them. Not to mention you'll get more than dealer trade regardless. I'd say you can bump the private party value by 50% of the new price of those options. So if the HFP lip kit is worth $1000 as a new option, I would think you could bump your private party value by at least $500 to consider that lip kit. Similar with the wheels if they're in good shape.

on a side note... I've ridden in an IS 250 and I didn't find it very big. In fact, I think my civic sedan has about the same amount of room as the IS did (the IS may have a tad bit more but nothing substantial). Either way it'll be a large step up from a civic coupe!

Good luck to you!

So, I ended up trading the SI for the IS250. I was happy with what they gave me for the trade, though I know selling it myself I could have gotten more. The IS isn't much bigger, but does have two extra doors which will come in handy. My husband is a big guy and says the IS is more comfortable for him. I am missing my SI terribly and it was quite the sad goodbye but I am looking forward to modding the IS some! Thanks for all of the advice y'all! I'm sure I will still check 8thgen often as I still love these cars! Maybe one day I will have another.

So, every 8th gen I see (or 9th gen even) makes me sad! I miss my SI badly! In a year or two thinking of getting a new SI sedan. I'm loving the 2014's!! We did take the IS to the tail of the dragon and my husband drove and said it handled better than the SI would have (its an F-Sport by the way). After driving it a while, it is NOT bigger than the civic. We actually think it's more cramped. Either way, I have had the SI on my mind. Until then going to try to do some things to the IS to keep myself interested.

Try holding out till 2015, or the end of 2014. Supposedly we are to see either an R ROFL..I wish...(we can only hope lol) Or at least a direct fuel injection engine! still wait till then. I was gonna tell you to always print, KBB values and NADAGuides Values n bring them to the dealership! Only benefit usually comes paying less in taxes for it but you can always get more out of it private selling as long as you draw a nice contract releasing yourself out of any future liability.

i don't. i went from an 07 fg2 to an 07 350Z and no regrets whatsoever, esp when it comes to the oil change.

OP, congrats on the trade. the IS's are very nice cars!

My brother had a sedan that was still tough to fit a child seat into the back of and I'm sure that's something I'll have to live with to have a fun car. I ended up trading the is250 in on a 2014 wrx sti, and so far the boost has made me miss the si a little less :] it's got a lot more room than the is250 and is a lot more fun to drive.

These cars so different SI/IS/STI. Hopefully you found what you were looking for since trading cars after one year is an expensive habit.
