Unorthodox Racing Lightweight Pulley Kits Available

Unorthodox Racing Lightweight Pulleys are now available for the 2006 Civic SI. These pulleys are made from CNC-machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum billet. Premium U.S. made 6061-T6 aluminum billet ensures the consistency of the material's strength and balance. Tolerances are held to within .001", and numerous machining steps are used to ensure the lightest possible design. In addition to fit, finish is just as important and each piece is representative of this. Every pulley is inspected multiple times from machining to anodizing to stocking and finally at shipping time. If at any point a pulley does not pass inspection it is pulled from production.

These pulley's increase power by reducing weight from the crankshaft. An average of 2.7hp is achieved from each pound of mass taken off the crankshaft and 85% of the gains you'll see come from weight reduction. A slight under-driving of the crank pulley accounts for the remaining gains.

The 2006 Civic SI application includes one crank pulley and one alternator pulley and they are only available as a kit. You WILL need a new belt to install this kit - we can include the belt for you, or you may elect to find it in your area as prices vary by region.

I was reading somewhere that there is rubber dampining in the stock crank pulley and removing it would mess up the balance of the crank. Is this true or is it just someone talking out their A#$ on another site. I had them on an 89 Mustang and had not problems, but it did still have its harmonic balancer. Thanks for any insight.

The engine is internally balanced - the rubber in the OEM pulley is known as an "elastomer" that serves as an isolator to supress NVH transmitted to the interior (noise, vibration and harshness). This piece is often confused with a harmonic damper. The elastomer is not adequate in size and durability to act as an effective harmonic/torsional damper.

Mostly, they are there to supress regular belt noise. We have never experienced additional noticeable belt noise from any car we've installed UR pulleys on.

Thanks for the info Z1, I really didn't think that it would hurt anything, a pulley is just a pulley, if it needed a damper it would have one. I am considering the pulleys, I just can't decide between the NST's or UR set. So I will probably wait untill after I get through my moving/holiday time frame and then look more into it.

I don't have any experience with the NST piece, but I've had a UR pulley on just about every car I've owned in almost a decade and I've been pleased time and time again. We're looking to install our own 06 SI UR pulley soon :)

As always, feel free to contact us with any and all questions!

Sounds good, looking forward to some pics and a DIY install. Do you plan to Dyno before and after? It will put to rest the question of is it worth it or not.

The hardest part of doing it when I swaped the pulleys on my Mustang was getting the Alt. pulley off. I had to go to an autoparts store to get it removed and the underdrive pulley installed. Other than that it is simple. On a 4 banger mounted side ways I would think it might be a little more difficult.

Installation is usually pretty easy and can be done with hand tools. All I've ever needed is a breaker bar and a second person to step on the brake pedal while you use the break the factory bolt free.

Old pulley comes off, new pulley goes on and the new belt goes on as well. Unorthodox also supplies torque ratings for you...

The instructions are comprehensive :)

What about the alt. pulley? How do you go about removing that yourself?

Look at the alternator - the pulley is just held on by a bolt...looks like cake.

You may now order from the website at a great price - orders will ship Monday!

Sounds like all you should need is an impact gun and it should come easy enough then.

Not sure of the gains on an 06 Civic SI yet as dyno results are not yet published. The best part of these pulleys is that they will usually show gains all across the rev range rather than just peak hp gains - a great attribute for a peaky engine like the K20.

These are the gains of their kit on an RSX Type S - we should expect similar gains.
