FYI...best max performance summer tire
Max performance summer is the best performance tire u can buy....higher than all the rest in performance including ultra high performance etc etc...i don't know hoe else i can put it....
best for wet and dry...just short of R compounds which are race tires and wear quicker, not as safe in heavy rains etc etc.... so fo those of us looking for the best without going into R compounds... here is a comparison chart from the tire rack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=MP i tried to post the pic on here but it wouldn't let me. ofcourse u could settle for less esxpensive all seasons etc...this is just for those who what the best performace wise.

after countless hours of reading...research...like i always do being the student that i am(summer is in and i still can't get into BUM MODE), i've come to this ....
Max Performace Summer Tire(price not a factor...u get what u pay for) Michelin PS2 is the best max performance summer tire to date with Goodyear's Eagle F1 GS-D3 an extremely close second, ride comfort and noise being the deciding factors which separated the 2...they are closest u'll get to R compounds grip wise(dry), but better in wet(heavy rain, standing water, stormy, everyday encounters)conditions...u pay for what u get here. outstanding dry/wet traction, easily track able tires, noise is minimal, exceptional handling, ride comfort and performance... for anyone looking for a quick review on max performance summer tires this link would shed some light, but further research would narrow ur choices down to the 2 chosen. DOT Appoved R Compounds Toyo RA1 being the best R compound tires overall...all the others compared to it were extremely close followers but the RA1 would be best for everyday drivers who seek an R compound(regular trackers) that's DOT approved because it has longer tread life, better wet traction than the others cuz it has deeper treads...it was designed that way cuz it was intended for endurance races...the tire gets stronger as it wears BUT weaker in wet traction...there are many other DOT R compounds available but none last as long, offer the wet traction initially or unshaven and neither are as cost effective. All perform almost equally well for their intended purposes on the track. Soooo...anyone who's been reading this thread and is in touch would remember the slight comparisons between the ps2 and the ra1...testament to how good max performance tires have become/are...i doubt the majority of people reading this now will be able to push the above mentioned tires, michelin or goodyears, equipped to an Si to the point where they may need r compounds....but hey...some of us just want bragging rights and will jump straight to the R's anyway...to each his own... these are the best(subjective but factual )...just helping people out.didn't bother to check for all seasons or ultra high performance tires...i'm not interested in those...if u are....stop being lazy and start doing ur own research.

i also had those tires on my v6 accord before i traded it in for the Si and they were noisy as hell...i hated them...and they got noisier as they got lowere in tread....too loud for me..it was irritating at times. on other reviews they were also slated as being noisy and not offering a good ride...don't just judge from the tire rack reviewers...yes it's a good chart...but further review will let u know the deal.. if ride comfort and noise isn't an issue then i guess they are right up there with the rest.

I've had GS-D3's in the same size, and I respectfully disagree. I think that the SP Sport Maxx's are every bit as good, though both tires have many differences. Anyway, every different tire acts differently in different sizes on different cars, so it's tough to say which one is better. Maybe for my application, it worked better, maybe in yours it did not. Either way, Max Perf. tires rule! :)

that chart's from customer response right? if so, i wouldn't trust it...not
everyone can afford the more expensive tires and some newbs buying tires better than their OE tires think WOW THIS IS THE BESTESTEST!!! and give a high rating. from the many cars ive modded and played around with the settings over the years, i still think the S03 and GS-D3's are by far better performing tires than anything out there for summer driving on street. |

i dont even want to start this ...but sorry your wrong.. 2 of the best street tires out now , tirerack doesnt even sell.. dont tell people whats best when u only do research from tirerack... the tires that win most get the lowest times are azrenis, kumho mx, hankook z212s, kumho victo racers and hoosiers...prices wise u cant touch the hankooks and kumho victo's...

point me to a hoosier max perfomance summer tire, their drag radials and so on are superb, their new DOT r compounds can be used on the street, but they won't be as safe as the toyo RA1 cuz they handle like shit in the wet...and wet doesn't mean damp. kumho victo racers are R compounds, they were compared against the toyo RA1 and though they are nearly as good, the ra1s are better...the kumhos wear out a lot quicker on every day driving, they not as good when it's wet cuz it has more shallow treads and they don't perform as well overall...go read...a lot. RA 1 do it well on the track and on the street...i doubt anyone who has a dialy driver would want to buy R compounds they can't feel safe with on the street. that was the point to this thread...best tires u can get for street and track use....that's why i didn't include drag radials, or all seasons...etc. if u'd read the the whole post u'd see i didn't just check tire rack. i spent 2 days reading a number of different sites and review boards, not just the tire rack. I even made sure to tell another guy on here who said that the tire at the top of the tire rack chart was the best, that it wasn't and that everyone should not take the chart as a true guide but should also do further research and the'd see that that the choices were by far the best if price wasn't an issue. azenis rt are garbage in the wet/standing water/heavy rain...every single site/review made that clear...they have outstanding dry grip however...but this wasn't about dry grip. It was about the best overall performing tire u can get. Quote:
i understand everyone would have a favourite tire or a tire that they think is the best cuz of prior experience with them. This to me is not about a simple opinion. if it was i'd say the PS2 are the best, cuz i'm running those now. I went to as many sites or reviews that i could have found(a lot) over a span of 2 long days and then made the choices. I chose the tire rack's graph cuz it was the most detailed out of all the others that i saw...but i made it clear not to base the choice on that 1 graph. like i said price wasn't an issue...and u get what u pay for... if i was going by best bang for the buck then maybe the choices would have been different...but it was about the best of the best...price not included... __________________________________________________ __________________________________ if anyone is looking for the best bang for the buck tire, then please go do that research and make a thread so u can help the other members out also. like i said i was only interested in best max performance summer tire and best overall r compound tire. i narrowed down best max performance summer to 2 choices, price not being a factor and r compounds to the best 1...best one cuz it's the only that can really handle the street on an everyday basis...others are just as good if it was for the track only...but it wasn't about that. could have gone to uxtreme max performance summer tires...but u sacrifice wet performance for dry stickiness...

You're joking right? The ps2s are an awesome street tire. The S03s had their run but are now inferior compare to the likes of the ps2s and the GS-D3s The S03s were pretty much replaced by the re050 which by the way are also part of the top summer tires. |

Just wanted to bump this thread back up from the depths to find out if the information here is still accurate.
I'm at almost 20,000 miles and my stock Michelin PE2 summer tires are in need of replacing. I was very pleased with these summer tires over their lifespan and was probably going to get another pair, however I wanted to check here first to find out if there was a consensus on a better summer tire. I don't want an R-compound or an A/S tire, just another set of quality summer tires. So do I stick with the Michelin's or has someone found a summer tire they prefer over the stock PE2's? How is the PS2 mentioned here different from the PE2? Last edited by greens; 08-07-2007 at 03:19 PM. |

imo ... only thing better than PE2 is PS2 ...

Have you been able to compare the longevity of the PS2 vs the PE2? Does the PS last as long as the PE or does it tend to wear a little quicker? Would you suggest going with the slightly wider 225/45/17 or stick with the stock 215/45/17? |

so i'd say they last a long time even under harsh circumstances ... to be quite honest ... they surprised me with how well they wear and how long they last ...
