Talking 07 civic EX/thinking about painting OEM's

what do you guys think...

i have a GG civic EX, and instead of buying new wheels, why not just spray paint the ones i have. I have seen someone on this site with the OEM rims like a drk gunmetal... I NEED HELP.

how do you guys suggest i do this?! DO i do it myself... do i take it to a shop, what materials should i use.

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP, OR ANY LINKS TO POSTS THAT HAVE ALREADY COVERED THIS SUBJECT.

thank you.

Powdercoating stock EX rims is way too much. You can nearly buy SI rims for that price. Painting your rims is easy, but it takes a whole day.

youll need, 1-2 cans of primer, 3-4 cans of base coat, and 2-3 cans of clear coat. Soap, water, sand paper, painters tape and lots of newspaper. at least 2 jack stands, 4 preferably.

Jack up your car and remove all rims. clean rim with soap and water to remove oils and dirt, now rinse and sand all of it.
Use painters tape to mask off the tire or any other areas you don't want painted.

The technique for painting with a spray can is to keep a continuous spray. Start on the left side spraying away from the rim, move at a constant pace and pass the edge of the rim. Repeat. Remember more light coats will result in a better product than less thick coats. It is normal for the first 1-2 coats to not be completely covered.
Set rims on newspaper, spray 1-2 thin coats of primer letting it dry 15-30 minutes in between each coat.
spray 3-5 light coats of the base, letting it dry 30-45 minutes between each coat
Spray 2-3 light coats of clear, letting it dry 30-45 minutes between each coat.

Try not to drive the car for a minimum of 24 hours to allow paint to set. 2-4 days even better.

You're set!

just my .2 cents.

even when you paint them, they will still be EX wheels... (or any stock wheel for that matter) just painted another color. ull get bored of the color in due time. at least i did when i painted my GSR wheels way back when

too much work.

Go to pep boys, buy 4 cans of flat-black dupli-color Wheel coating.

Sand down the stockers, wash with soap and water, and spray light coats. the finish with the black comes out perfect every time and dries in like 2 hours. i painted my si rims this way and they been going strong for about 5 months. and they look great especially when clean. i could imagine how easy it'd be to paint the ex wheels. (btw i only used about 2 cans of the paint)

^^^ it really depends on where you live. If you live in an area with rock littered roads, you're better off with my method. If you are in a suburban area then you might get away with no primer. The clear coat is only there for people who want it shiny.
