I'd suggest against it though, as lower offsets throw off your suspension geometry.

i was looking at 18x7.5 38 offset. so that would screw with my suspension? also are there any opinions on best tire size.

Rims -- MOTEGI TRACK TRAKLITE

Which rim size would be a better choice for 225/45/17

Size: 17x7
42mm
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
**Lightweight: 14.4lbs.**

OR

Size: 17x8
Offset: 45mm
Bolt Pattern: 5-114
**Lightweight: 15.0lbs.**

Also, if lowered with a 1.4" drop would this tire size have a negative impact?

Should work fine, I'll be using that set up with a 215/40 tire though due to my drop. Will post results next week sometime.

No. You need a 7.5" wheel for a 225 tire.

I'd run 225/40 on your setup. Modify what needs be.

If you're only going 225 for tire width, 17x7 is plenty. Getting wider rims w/o significantly wider tires is pointless.
