Hi,
Was thinking of getting the motegi tracklites c/w bf goodrich gforce2s come march/april. Any testimonials would be helpful. Oh yeah at 14.5 lbs/whl saving 34 lbs at the wheels should improve performance...or so I'd like to believe. Probably about $1800 after shipping and installation. Sigh, I think I sold my old car for less than half that lol.

FYI FD2 CTR wheels weigh 10.4kg, or 22.88 lbs. 18x7.5, so it's half an inch wider than HFP but same-ish weight.

HFP 16".................18 lbs
EX Stock 16"..........20 lbs

Si stock 17"...........23 lbs
HFP 18".................23 lbs
Mugen 18"..............16.5-17 lbs

Lightest weight tire in the 215/45/17 size is the General Exclaim UHP @ 18lbs. There are many in the 21-23 lb range. Tire rack lists all the tire weights in the specs section. Very helpful.

Kosei K1-TS is the lightest wheel offered by tirerack in the 17X7 size for the $$$ at $179 a wheel for a 14.1 lb wheel! My wheels/tires mounted/balanced weighed 33lbs even on the scales. Hideously light. Remember if buying these wheels to get them in the +42 offset as there is also a +50 offset in these wheels that comes up when searching by our car's model. Use the dropdown box to select the other 17X7. Same pirce, but offset will change.

I have this combo and they're light! Keep in mind that the tire's weight plays an even more important role than the rim's weight due to the tire being further from the axis of rotation than the rim. Of course handling and grip is also more important to some. The General Exclaim UHP tires while being the lightest and cheapest are a bit noisier than stock and don't grip like the Falken Azenis RT-615's I've run on other cars, but, they're also 5-7 lbs lighter! I traded higher lateral grip for better acceleration and MPG.

Last year I put some Factory Replica Wheels on my 1.8T '02 Jetta replacing the stock 15" alloys and noticed quite a decrease in acceleration. It wasn't a Hmmm, car feels a bit slower but I'm not sure, it was a Oh well, my car is definately slower, but at least it looks cool. Car felt heavier over bumps. Also reduced my fuel economy by over 10%.

To answer the question in the post above, your wheel and tire combo on a stock SI new is 45lbs.

tires you can check up on tirerack.com

find out your tire, do a search for it and look under specs - they will have your size and you'll see the weight.

They are certainly light. And when it comes to wet traction they are extremely good - if not better than dry.

However I do disagree with road noise - I find them to be quiet.

Swapped my 16" LX wheels to 17" Si and weighed each. The stock steel 16" with Bridgestone was 38 lbs (+1 lb for hubcap), the Si with Michelin M+S weighed in at a portly 45.4 lbs.

I'm going to demount the LX tires and will weigh the rims only soon, but Tirerack indicates the Bridgestones weigh 23 lbs so if my math is right, the LX wheel weighs about 15 lbs. (but is only 16x6.5").

thanks for doing that :)

well, that wheel would might have been 20 on their scale since it had such shitty accuracy.

Also a 16 inch wheel should need a heavier tire at the same width.. still, it's surprising.. who would have thought that a steel wheel would weigh not that much more than an alloy one. Makes me want to make sure i get something really light on mine. :)

I'm confused - did you weigh a steel LX wheel (16x6.5") and it weighed 19.6 lbs? Maybe I screwed something up...

instead of spending cash on ultra light wheels in the 2000$ plus range with tires... why not put that money towards performance enhancing mods on the engine for it to actually produce more power instead of having to worry about shaving 15 pounds off the rolling stock?

aren't tires basically the best handling upgrade you can give your car? There are some cheap/light rims on tire-rack. kosei ones have been mentioned. For me, i got snow tires on my steel rims and need to get some new ones. I might as well try and get something lighter.

That is the setup I have on my car for the winter... and I have to say that the Type S wheel with the tire is way lighter than the stock Si wheel/tire combo that came with the car. When I take them off this spring i'll put a wheel on a scale just to see the difference.
