What is the widest tire that will fit on the stock 16" rims? Stock tire size is 205/55/16 and I was wondering if anyone has tried 215/50/16 or 215/45/16? I would like to Auto-X and want to get the most rubber on the ground.

I have an LX sedan also with SI rims...wanting new tires...and trying to decide whether to stay stock or go with 225/45/17...I know this size will be wider and won't rub, but how does it look...? By going with the size listed, I will be closer to the stock diameter of the 16" wheel, so that is one reason to plus size...any thoughts and/or pics of car with 225/45/17's?
Thanks for the feedback...this site rocks.....

Are there any issues with anyone running 225/50-16's on 16x7 wheels?

I really like 16" wheels better than 17's or 18's. I would love to have this setup on my EX sedan.

I'm stock height now, but will either go with HFP suspension or a slight spring drop of no more than 1 inch or so.

I was just wondering if any of the AutoX guys are having issues with this. I won't race, just want some meat under the car!

Thanks,
Brian

I wanna know the same thing. I just bought some 18x8.5 and I need alittle more tire to protect the lip on them over the 225/40/18. Anyone running a 235/40/18?

I am running my car with 17/ 38 0ffset -225/45/17 tires and when i pass over a slope some rubbing is happening especially on the left side fender, so i called edge racing and mention this problem, cus i bought the set of wheels and tires from them, based on their recomendations and this guy LEO told me that maybe i have a alignment problem. I told him that is only 10000 miles on my car and he told me that that fitment was tested diferent car`s model including my 2006 sedan lx. so what i can i do to solve this problem if is not such alignment thing.

This is for a sedan...maybe the generals fit on a coupe.
Also this was with a +42 offset maybe they would fit with a +45 but it did not look like it from where it was rubbing.

I have General Exclaim UHP 225 40 18 on my gg 2007 civic hybrid sedan, on 18 inch HFPs, and I had VERY, VERY slight rubbing only on HUGE bumps for the first 8 weeks, then it went away (maybe I wore the tires down just enough for them to clear the fenders after 4000 miles. I have to recommend these tires, guys, they ride so quiet and comfortable, AND they handle amazing, and are very sticky (great traction). And they are cheap on tire rack!! I do a lot of aggressive NYC driving, and I swear they take bumps so comfortably it is bizzare; I have a WRX STI on 225 45 17s pirelli p zero nero that feels like crap over bumps compared to the Generals. I have +45 offset. I wouldn't drop the car too low at first, though... Wait until the tires break in a little bit!

I wouldn't. I have 225 40 18 General UHPs with 18 inch HFPs on my 2007 sedan, and I had some slight rubbing the first 4000 miles over huge bumps, without lowering. After the tires wore in, the rubbing stopped completely. 235 is probably too wide, especially if your'e going to drop it. And, I would make sure you have +45 offset with big tires b/c you have very little room for error. I know other guys have tried different offsets, but the guys at the tire rack told me that small offset changes (more than +or- 2 mm) can increase your chances of rubbing big time. Good luck - I hope this helped.

BY THE WAY GUYS... 18 inch HFPs are 18 x 7 NOT 18 x 7.5!!

Will 18x8 +35 on a 225/40 tire work on my car with HFP suspension? Or do I need to stretch the tires?

Here is my current set up 18x8 +45 on 225/40 tires with HFP suspension:

I have 225 45 17's on mine.. and they'll rub on those deep yet graceful highway bumps... 225 is probably a little too wide.. but they look nice 'n chunky!
