Tire Width Question...worth the extra $$$?

I plan on purchasing Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires soon for my SI coupe. My question is that I can purchase the stock size (215/45/17's) for $133 each or go up one width to (225/45/17's or 225/40/17's) for $155. This comes out to be $88 more which is fairly significant...

So considering budget, what do you think???

IMO...It's worth the money to put on the 225/45-17's for what you will gain in better handling and looks. I would not go with the 40 series tires because it will effect your speedometer readings.

plus you could rub, but it will look more agressive. slightly wider contact patch as well

who cares about rubbing whenfor every 60 mph you drive you are going 61.7. go with a 40 and you are a lot closer to stock.

Judging by that Tire Calculator, 235/40's are the closest match for not throwing off the speedo....and we're POSITIVE this doesn't rub? Seems really wide for a Civic

You certainly DON'T want it to rub. If you're at speed, and it's rubbing against even a bit of your fender and/or strut...there's some possibility of CUTTING the tire.

i was being sarcastic. i have 235 40's and they dont rub. you dont want them to rub but i was making the point that his speed is off pretty bad. go with 235 40's and you wont be upset.

Ok guys...everyone is saying that 225/45/17 won't scrub...I have an 07 lx sedan with Si rims (and yes, I have the 3mm spacers) that I put this size on and I drove on some rough roads last weekend...and I scrubbed...bad enough that I noticed today that the inner fender well (lf and rf) is now missing 2 plastic clips that hold the inner fender well in place...any ideas? BTW, they are nexen n3000 tires, and for the money...they are awesome ($325 installed)...
the car is on stock suspension, (except for the si rsb that was installed today), but that should not have a thing to do with it.
I am wishing now that I had stayed with 215/45/17, but the wider tire looks and drives better...sorry for the long post...

Anyone have any ideas? is it because of the spacers? or that brand tire? or am i missing something here?

Thanks guys for all of your help...

Hmmm...that's really weird. It must be the spacers because it sounds like most everyone else says 225's don't rub. Both on here and other forums.

your problem is the 45. drop down a size. with the wider the tire you go the taller it actually gets even if it still says its a 45 or whatever. use the tire calculator to see what size is the best. i will already tell you that 235 40 is really close to stock and it does not rub. i am lowered on s techs and i dont. and for the guy with 3mm spacer i think you would be alright even with my setup

i have the nexen n3000s 225/45-17 as well on a 35 offset wheel and i rub slightly(i have a coupe). what i noticed is that the nexen seems to be slightly bigger than a different brand tire in the same size.
