sorry have to call you out, you meant you know they are not steel right? because I please do hope, you do not think your wheels are plastic or something, because they are metal. lol, I'm sure it's just a typo, but it was funny.

Correct.

This is what you want to do, step by step, to Polish your centers. Stripping Process: 1) Disassemble the entire wheel using the proper tools. (12pt 8mm bit) 2) Clean the centers with some Green cleaner or soap, whatever you have. 3) Dry them fully, and place them in a ventilated space. (Outside is best) 4) Apply any type of Paint Remover solvent. (Aircraft Paint Stripper) 5) Let sit for required time (Usually 30-40 Minutes) 6) Wash off the excess stripper, and peeled paint. 7) Re do steps 3-6 until satisfied, or most of the paint is gone. Sometimes you can get it all on the first shot, if you don't need to do it again, don't. Sanding Process: Supplies: 400 Grit Sandpaper 600 Grit Sandpaper 800 Grit Sandpaper 1000 Grit Sandpaper 1500 Grit Sandpaper 2000 Grit Sandpaper Wire Brush Spray Bottle Rag Mothers Aluminum Polish Mother Cone Polisher 1) Start sanding out the extra paint that wasn't removed by the solvent with your wire brush. Once it's all gone, move to step 2. 2) Start with the 400 Grit without water, just sand out any imperfections first, than start sanding around in a pattern so you can keep consistent lines. 3) Move to 600 Grit when any Major imperfections are gone, and use your spray bottle to keep the sandpaper and the rim wet. 4) Once you sand out all the lines left by the 400, move on to the 800 Grit so you can remove all the lines left by the 600 Grit. You repeat this until you end up at Grit 1500. 5) At this point of 2000 Grit I sand different, very soft to the touch and I go in circular patterns, (I was sanding lips, you might want to do a different type of motion). Use a lot more water and make sure it never gets dry, this is the final stage of sanding and any imperfections you leave will stay. 6) Wash the rims well, than apply some Mothers Aluminum polish to the face of the rim. 7) Use the Mothers Cone Polisher until the polish turns black, than wipe it off with a damp rag, than dry with a soft rag. There you have it, polished faces! |

In terms of your water stains, do they not come out after a polish? Try a Mothers Powerball and some Aluminum Polish, if it doesn't come out than I'm afraid you will have to do some sanding. |

Did you read my post at all?
I just explained the entire process, of course you can polish it. If you think you can do this by hand, with no experience, you are off your rocker. The BBS RS face is one of the hardest rims in existence to polish, too many deep grooves and corners. I would recommend calling your local Paint place, they can lead you in the right direction or give you a quote. Last edited by sifika; 05-03-2011 at 09:56 PM. |
