winter tires buying this weekend but answer a Q for me

Sup all, I'm grabbing dunlop wintersport m3's for this years winter... thought I'd try them out.

I liked the blizzaks and alpins but want something different this time.

Now... I rather get 17's but tirerack doesn't have steelies for them, so I'm going to have to go with 16's steelies, will this clear the brakes (in the future im planning to upgrade to a project mu brake kit or something so they must fit on upcoming winters as well)? that's my only concern... maybe a stupid question but would like confirmation.

I drove a winter with 17" alloys on G35 coupe and had a ok winter thanks to the blizzaks, thats why I think a 17" tire is plenty sidewall to play with was fine on a RWD car will be even better on a FWD.

16" is probably better anyways...

btw 16" steelies with dunlop wintersports are about $650 or so... I think that's pretty good compared to previous years I've spending about 1k on winter setups just cuz I wanted to keep a decent look, alloys are just not worth it.

I got away with having SUMMER tires in western MD where it snows quite a bit

you should look into cheap honda 17" alloys to at least stay stylish:)

not sure if I will last with summer tires, I am kinda a sales rep so I travel quite a bit on the road.

I don't mind steelies for the winter but my concern is on upgraded brakes and rotors will they still be alright on fitment being 16"

o ok...

usually cars are designed to have +/- sizing..meaning if the car came with 17's 16 or 18 should fit with zero problem

but i also heard somewhere 16" may not work on the SI...

2evolved: Have a separate thread started concerning my recent winter tire package purchase from tirerack.com. I got 16s, same tires but alloy wheels. Spoke with a tirerack rep and he stated that there would be not problem with the alloys or steelies they show available for the Si. Good tire choice BTW.

Thanks saw your post kudos for picking a great tire.. my only concern is will the fitment still be good with a brake upgrade in the long run.

17 inch rims and tires would certainly be a safer bet in that case. I don't intend on reworking the brakes so it's a non issue for me. 16 inch rims/tires are bit cheaper than 16s but not that much. Was thinking more of winter driving comfort with the 16s I ordered.

your honda dealer will have the recommended winter tire size.
for my wife's accord, which came with 17's from the factory like the SI's they recommended a 16" rim/tire combo for best traction/cost effectiveness.
that said I got the 17's anyway b/c i wasn't using the stockers as it was :)
