Gram 57C vs. 57F

So another post by my crazy wheel shoppin ass.....but have now been considering Gram Lights, as well as the bronze finish. But as a wheel noob why would I want the forged "F" rim, over just the "C" rim. Is it really that much better? I understand that it is "stronger", but other than that, what's up??

They're lighter. Less prone to cracking, and would bend instead. And, yes, they're stronger. Then again, a properly cast wheel will be strong too. It's up to you. I'd rather spend a little extra for the forged.

Thats kinda how I am feelin but if I need to fork over a little extra, might have to bump it down to 17" so I can mount my stock tires until more money rolls in. Another noob wheel question.....whats stock width on Si wheels?

How can rims NOT be a performance mod? Lightweight wheels do nothing but add performance in braking, weight savings, etc.

Ahhhhhh....but now I have just found the TSW Thruxton's that I originally wanted, still weary of whether or not its for real, shot the folks at wheelsnext.com an email awaiting the reply. Think its gonna come down to the 18" Thruxton and the 18" 57C.....

but regardless... going to a lightweight wheel lowers the amount of unsprung weight your car has to start to roll. I know just dropping 3lbs/rim for my integra got me off the line quicker. I never took it to the track to show how much of a difference but the butt dyno told me it was very noticable.

BTW, TSW... please don't. Quality once or cheap a hundred times over. You always end up happier with quality.

18" *can* be performance. For people who have those big track-day ready Big Brake Kits.

And, I was referring to 17" wheels.

izzy is correct...not to be off topic but here is a prime example...i have a 05 tahoe that had 24" foose speedstar 6's on it which are a cast, not to mention heavy as F*#k...i had to upgrade to a baer brake racing kit for all 4 corners because of the increase in rotational mass. I now have a newer 07 tahoe with i-forged equip wheels. let me tell you you definitely get what you pay for in terms of manufacturing for a wheel. My old cast 24's were around 85lbs a piece for the wheel/tire combo and my newer iforged wheels with tires weigh almost half of that pretty similar to what i had stock. forged wheels are the way to go less rotating mass=better performance. thats why i am planning on investing for my si on some volk racing ce28n 10 spoke.....gunmetal ....oh yeah

forgot to add in my previous post...as far as tires...i would recommend the pirelli p-zero nero model. my buddy had them on his si in 225/40/18 size. they are reasonably priced around 130 a tire, they have a non-directional traed pattern on them allowing you rotate them however you please, they are quiet in terms of road noise, and they handle and wear great. just my opinion...
