Good deal/Great Service - Discount Tire

Hey cool people with great taste!

I have been shopping for rims/tires for a while now and finally decided exactly what I want. I have to admit, while I typically HATE shopping, this has been pretty fun. Its sorta like being a really hot guy in a room full of hot women who are bored! You can pretty much have any of them you want, but you know some will cost you a lot more and require more maintenance in the long run! You don't have to buy anything right then and until you do, they are all "yours" lol. Ok, on to the real story.

So, I head down to discount tire today thinking of buying buying my rims online and getting the rest (tires, lugs, chrome valve stem, mounting, etc.)from them.

This guy was great to work with! As it happens, he owns an 06 EX and has been looking for the best combo for himself too. Anyway, he spends 30 minutes with me going over options and explaining diferences. Discount Tire prices matches rims and tires. Here is the good stuff:
  • They don't sell the rims I want, but this guy makes a phone call and comes in $25 less than the internet price I had after a lot of shopping (including taxes). They can have them in stock within one week.
  • They give me solid advice that I have since researched and confirmed about which tires might be best for my driving style and wants (not a racer, drive a lot of miles a year, and a quiet ride is essential (my stock Bridgestones suck for noise level!)
  • They price match the tires price I found on the internet - but add $25 to compensate for the mounting and balancing (oddly they tried to charge me a mounting fee too - but when I mentioned that it looked like I was paying a twice for mounting, balancing and such, they immediately told me they would drop the tire price so the package would cost exactly the same as it would have if I had bought the tires from the net and then paid their standard mount and balance charge that I would have had to have done anyhow
  • We go over the tire size options and he shows me the combination that keeps my overall height of the tire and rim exactly the same as stock. Incidentally, I am going with a 17x7 rim and Kumho Ecsta ASX - 225/45/17 rim
  • They have a credit program that allows you to buy the set and it is interest free and no payments for 6 months - or interest free and a small monthly fee for one year. I have some cash coming in a while that will pay for the deal and this lets me get them ahead of time without messing around in my savings. Watch these though, typically if you pay one day late, you get bombed with a high interest rate on the entire period!
  • They include a nice prorated road hazard program and free balancing for life
  • I just missed out on a $40 rebate on the tires

So, the price turned out as good as it could with 100% internet price matching, plus 6 months free till you have to pay, I got the tires and rims I wanted with a combination that will minimally effect my speedometer, I can get it done while I am at work a few miles away and I have a discount tire on every corner in my area.

In short, I am pretty pleased I will be posting pics in a week or two when I have it all taken care of! At this point, having dealth with these guys before, I can't say anything but good things about this company!

Super.. I did the same thing.. my rebate for the tires will hopefully be in soon.. oddly enough my store matched the exact internet price.. and they didnt have the same wheels.. so they upgraded them to the ecsta spt for free :]..
the thing that I really enjoy is that they'll repair them, free rotations, and wherever I decide to move I'll have assurance that I can go to them if necessary.
I got my 18 x 8 Fn01r-c's OTD price of 1133
Nice Write-up,, and I recommend doing the same,, shop online then take it in :]

Good information. Thanks for posting. We don't have a DTD around in NE Ohio but I've visited their site a bunch of times and wondered how they were to work with. They have a nice selection.

I just wanted to say that's for the good comments about the company. I work for Discount tires, actually it's America's Tire Co. in California since there were discount tire centers out here before the company moved out here. It's good to see that our people could get you set up and like they said before we will match any price you get and can get just about any rims and tires you want so if you got a store near you go in and check it out and see what ind of deal they can get for you. Enough of my salesman pitch, but thanks again for the compliments.
