Hydroplaining problem.

I just got My Civic last July. It keeps raining here in Md and I keep hydroplaining for some reason. When I'm at a stop sign or a stop light, I will accelerate and it will loose touch with the ground. Am I taking off to fast, or are the stock tires messed up? Has anyone had this issue or have this issue?

It sounds like 1: your tires suck ass. and 2: its pouring rain and the road is very wet and you are accelerating a little rough, therefor causing wheel spin

I never lose contact with the floor in rain when I take off and I have an SI. YOu are just taking off too fast.

Hydroplaning isn't when your tires spin from a stop, it's when your tires lose contact with the road while going over a body of water at high speeds...

^^ Yep, our cars do hydroplane like a ***** though don't they?

Mine spins now and then but it would probably happen a lot more if the throttle wasn't so lame.

I would say better tires. Get some really good tires, the ones I have right now only hydroplane when I'm going very very fast. I've got BF Goodrich KDW 225/45/17 in the front and stockies in the rear.

you're excelerating too fast. you have bridgestones correct? my gf has an 08 ex with about 20,000 miles and stock bridgestones and it's fine. slow down or upgrade your tires.

not a very good idea. your suppose to have your best tires in the rear. KDWs>stock and before you say "it's fwd" Tips on Installing New Tires a lot of tire places have this policy and it's put there for a reason. KDWs are "y-rated"-300km+ HXMXM4 are "h-rated"-240km. big difference. and you have a bigger tire in the front??? why? as for the op. your accelerating too fast. hydro planing as stated before is going fast over a patch of water and basically floating over it losing contact with the road. stock tires suck and always will.

Agreed, and a very relevant point.

And to the OP, I'm not attempting to be mean, but understand this is a life-and-death issue. LEARN TO DRIVE! If you don't even know what hydroplaning is, how to spell it, or understand the great mystery of your spinning tires there probably isn't much you do know about driving. Get some instruction under controlled circumstances from experts before you kill yourself and/or others. This is not a role an internet forum can fulfill. And yes, the stock tires suck. But even that's a small issue compared to the driver. I say this for your own good, even though it's highly unlikely that you'll seriously consider my warning, much less heed it.

on a somewhat related note. i floored it from a stop in a puddle and my tires spun so much i hit 6K before i even started moving,it was like it was in neutral. no resistance at all.

^^^^ Very good point. just hope it's taken as helping and not bashing.

so stop flooring it or upgrade your tires. again not hydro planing. this topic is on hydro planing and not how many times i can spin my stock tires. a puddle wont stop your traction if your at a stand still. ice would but not a puddle. now if there was a man hole cover or leaves or something of a slippery service under your car when you "floored it" then thats what might have caused your wheel spin. other then that your tires are bald and you need new ones.

I live in colorado and i have to say, even though it rains very little here, the stock tires abosultely suck in any adverse condtions. I have had the same problem since day 1. Fortunately that will be rectified on tuesday when i get new tires. My solution was to drive like my father (who drives slower than his mother) on days when the surface conditions are less than favorable. Stick it out until they wear out or buy some new rubber. I would rate the stock michelins good in the dry weather but they are something slightly less than horrible in anything but dry.

New rubber won't be the solution to your problem though, even with high performance tires you will still spin when flooring it form a standstill in wet conditions...
