17x 8.5...
when i was looking through tirerack.com it brought up some wheels sizes that were 8.5 and im curious if it's feasible. if so, what offset and tire size would be recommend and any precautions or pros vs cons etc? thanks

You would have to put on a tire that is too wide for the car and would have serious rubbing issues. A 7 or 7.5 would be more suitable with no more than a 225 tire. Go to http://www.bigcustomwheels.com/info_specs.jsp to give you an idea. Put your stock wheel and tire on the left then the one you're comparing on the right.

Even an 8 sounds too wide. I wouldn't try for anything larger than a 7.5. Remember that the wider you go, the more tire friction you'll need to overcome in the straights, thereby making your fuel efficiency numbers go down and possibly make you run slower.

It is possible with the right offset and a few modifications. Check out this thread, this person even has 255 tires on his car and it looks like sex
