Why not? Honest question.
Looks like someone did it on a Tacoma forum with successful results: My TPMS Sensor DIY - Tacoma World Forums |

^ Because not all TPMS systems functin the same way. Our sensors dont work on air pressure alone... they require movement of the wheel/tire to activate and begin reading. If in a pressurized tube, they have no movement and therefore, do not activate.

"TPMS" doh!
Well I just swapped on a set of take off wheels/tires from a 07 civic hybrid onto my 09 civic LX and the first thing i noticed was my "TPMS" light was on.
Im planning on possibly going back to my origional wheels at times maybe in bad weather. I think that there maybe a few points we ar all missing. I have no idea if only 1 sensor is required to cancel the tpms light. And tpms sensor is just a series of circuits if i had an extra one that would work with my car id just crack it open, short or open the pressure switch and then short the rotational switch and then throw it in the glove box. I could see possibly that if there is no battery and the movment causes a charge that you may need to add a batter holder to power it full time. If someone wants to send me a sensor that will work on my car ill see what i can do and give results. Also on another note looking at new goodyear fuel saver tires their max inflation is 51psi so id guess acceptable inflation could cause a indicator light. Other option might be to find the wire that goes to the light and just install a switch inline to turn the light off. Anyways my new tires and wheels are 7 pounds lighter per wheel, thats going from steel 16s to aluminum 15s. |

2009 lx coupe 16" steelies with hubcaps => 2007 17" hfps with TPMS sensors swap
![]() I went to a tire shop today and was first-time informed about the tpms rebuild kit. The problem is that they dont have them and told me to get them from honda, so i went to Honda dealer and was told that they are not offering a rebuild kit. So i was very mad since i thought it would be a simple swap. Ive got some questions: thanks in advance - Will stock tpms sensors need to be reprogrammed if i change rim size. (in my case 16" to 17")? I've seen yes and no answer on this - Should the tire shop stock the rebuild kit? Mine dont, so where can i get them? Im thinking discount tire. - Will tpms light went on if i have over-inflated tires like 42psi or its just under-inflated tires FYI i was quoted $20 to have my sensors swap (not included the kit which is around $30 i think) $70 to mount + balance pretty darn good deal if you ask me.PS: i actually like TPMS system due to the weird weather in my state, so +1 for the gorvement

- No. for sure! Im guessing rim size only affect indirect TPMS - Yes they should and i would buy one if they stock them. Anw i reused my old one and they work just as fine. The installer warn me about air leaking but then he told me it looks fine. - Yes it will, i keep my tire at 32psi. |

ugh
Well crap. Now I hate the fact that I bought aftermarket wheels
They are being sent to me as I type this and I chose the mount/balance to my door issue meaning everything is ready to throw on my car when they arrive. They were filled with Nitrogen as well. Thing is, my car has the TPMS and now my light will come on and stay on. I really am annoyed cuz now do I pay extra money to take the new tires off the new rims and the OLD tires off the OLD rims just to replace the sensors to get the light to go off or do I just live with the light being on 24/7? I never turn VSA off so that part isn't an issue. I do hate seeing dash lights though lol. Makes me paranoid. Suggestions? |

I recently bought some HFP wheels for my 08 Civic with the TPMS already installed. I was dragging my feet on taking the car to the Honda Dealer to get the sensors re-programmed because I knew they'd charge an arm and a leg. I took it to Discount Tire to see if they could program the sensors since I heard from someone they could. They did it for FREE, and it only took a few minutes. (The wheels and tires were already on the car.) They will also rotate your tires for FREE! Honda charges me 10 bucks for a rotation...

I've heard that you can just wave a magnet infront of the sensor/valve stem - like a large subwoofer magnet or something...
anybody try this? I'd really like to save the $120 for these stupid sensors. . . I want to buy a set of steelies for winter. I work at a shop and will only have them on the car when snow is anticipated so maybe I won't even drive enough for TPMS to realize the sensors are gone? B |

The TPMS light will come on instantly if the sensors are missing or they aren't programmed to the car. If you're going to be switching back and forth between steelies and your regular wheels I'd just live with the light on while you have your steelies on. I think you can only have your car synced with one set of sensors at a time so you'd have to constantly reprogram your car/sensors every time you switch wheels.

I am glad I have 07 oem si wheels...I would delete TPMS if I had it. What a pain in the A$$.
If I ever get this mandatory nonsense (like daytime running lights) I will delete them. Is there an easy way to delete or do you have to just remove the bulb from the dash? |

All good info Phalanx, only thing I'll point out is the sensor sitting flush against the inside of an aftermarket wheel. Its convenient for the guy mounting the tire (me), but its not critical. As for the spacer to make it sit flush, I've never seen one and that just sounds like something to go wrong. One more point, never ever use Fix A Flat, especially if you have sensors. If left in your tire long enough, it will ruin your sensor.

I have seen on this thread that there are some questions as to whether the ATEQ TPMS Quickset tool works. I can tell you that it certainly does. I got a great deal on factory '09 Si wheels with sensors from a J-yard. I put some winter tires on them that I picked up on Craigslist and I ordered the TPMS Quickset off of Ebay. After following the instructions and entering all the correct sensor ID's, I swapped my summer wheels for my winter wheels and used to tool to change the ID's in my Si's computer. I then went for a drive and within 1/2 mile my TPMS light was off. This tool is great! What a savings by not having to go to the dealer when I switch wheels.

Glad to see a solution but I still don't think I'll shell out $331 (Tirerack's price) for the Quickset and 4 new sensors when I buy my new wheels. I just don't see that kind of return on my investment.
