Powder Coating Wheels

Hey All,

I'm wondering what people's experience has been powder coating their wheels to change the color? Does it last? Are there any problems with chipping or anything like that?

I am considering the HFP's but I think they are a bit dark for a black car, so I am wondering about getting them painted in a matt silver.

BTW about how much does it cost to have a set of wheels powder coated?

Thanks,
CG

its actually really easy to powder coat them yourself, obv. youd have to buy the gun and all and have an oven...lol maybe its not so practical to do it yourself, but ive powder coated rims and its by no where means difficult. But if you dont have the stuff to do it then youd have to get it done by someone else, not sure how much it will cost though

if you prep the wheel right, painting the wheels with spray paint can come out just as good.

I have powdercoated wheels and its starting to chip, whereas my painted wheels are holding up strong.

my local powdercoater charges me 55 a wheel for standard colors (15")

17" should be less than 100 per wheel

powder coating is a great way to change the color of your wheels but if you want HFP's in silver, buy them in silver.

How well does it work? Does it last long or are their problems?

One of my friends bought some sort of special spray paint specifically designed for wheels from CT (Canadian Tire) and it looked decent for about 3 weeks and then it started coming off in spots and looked awful

If I opt for the powder coat solution I would want it to be a one time deal. Not something I have to redo on a regular basis.

Haven't been able to find them in 17" in silver.

Do you have a place to suggest?

there may be chipping down the road from normal wear and tear, it wont fall apart in 3 weeks though, i personally would radther do what prorcracer87 said and prep the wheel and spray paint it. probably last much longer

Oh yeah. These are powder coated. They are very durable and have been through one Ohio brutal winter and no problems at all.

Yeah I thought it was fairly easy to get HFP's in silver.

eBay Motors: HONDA CIVIC HFP WHEELS (item 180299284149 end time Oct-22-08 17:33:26 PDT)

Are these not the ones you're looking for?

Those appear to be the right color but in an 18"

I've been told that those will only work with civic's/csx's with TPMS. Not sure if that true?

Not sure how a wheel would only work with a car with TPMS. TPMS is just the electronic module used to monitor the tire pressure. If your car doesn't have it then it just doesn't use it.

17's in silver

College Hills Honda has the new 08 HFP wheels. They are silver w/ sensors. I think around $240 for 17s and around $280 for 18s. Hope this helps.
