Cant call it in, since its a warranty issue based on the service bulletin and i need a repair order opened with all your info as to place the parts order.

Mike & John have both written up an SI each to have repaired. the other 2 (bald guys) im not sure know anything about it, but any of them are pretty cool to deal with.

Hey sean I just went down to Hinshaws and they shafted me. the techs we all gone and i told him i have the third gear issue and he said they have to do a diagnostic like my dealership said and did(found nothing wrong apparently). And he said to come between the hours of 7am and 4:30pm which is nealry impossible for me. especially to do a diagnostic and burn my gas up to find nothing like honda of seattle did. Sean were you there when I went?? I was there a bit before 6pm today.

yeah i was there, dunno if i was out and about or not... usually between 5-6 in the back trying to clean/wrap up things.

damnit i wish you woulda told me which day you were coming... i told mike and jason about it, but the only people working today at that time was BOB (bald guy) and John. do you have a black Si? i saw that one pull up...

I dont even think BOB knows about the parts bulletin. when mike got the customer in... he just wrote it up as "replace 3rd gear synchro per bulletin 08-027" or whatever. i woulda vouched for ya....

sorry man... technically they are obligated to fix the issue, because listed under the bulletin as " possibly intermitten". anyhow ill brief BOB...

yeah mines was the black si with the tint and you could probably hear the vibrant exhaust. i didnt know i was gettin off that early and would have time. And yeah arent you supposed to be obligated for the fix? he didnt look like he knew what I was talkin about either. If i come again i would be coming during the week around 5-6pm. if you see a black fg2 with dark tints no front plate it probably gonna be mines. definantly not lookin into comeing tomorrow even though i could make it around that time. i dont wanna watse two bars of $4 premium gas to get there and have something go wrong. when your guys get it corrected then i'll come in for sure. thanks though for the info.

yes they do loaners for the fix... gotta be 25 of course.

oh and the first time you come, no loaner...all they will do is get info write up the work order to get the parts coming.... then when you come back to drop the car off.... loaner then.

if you guys let me know exactly when you plan on coming i can try to refer you to an advisor i know is working that day...

otherwise you kinda take a risk..and "have to have tech diagnose". dont forget to mention the service bulletin.

I can have the poping suspension taken car of also. It wont be for a month or so. I wanna be moved first. The first time you go in and order parts and a write up; do you have to leave the car there, or drive away after that. For the TS on the suspension, renton honda wanted m to drop my car off all day just to test it. Then they said there is no loaner vehicle available.

Well I guess we all have different experiences. Hinshaws didn't do jack for me. Renton rebuilt my tranny. Enough said.

We all know Honda dealers know of the problem. We all know Honda corporate knows of the problems. They are like any business they don't want to pay for everything.

So my view is call Honda and complain. Go to the dealer that you bought your car from and complain. Let them have it for a day if that's what they want. They should provide a loaner car. I had a 06 V6 accord for a loaner when they rebuilt my tranny at Renton. So I recommend them.

What we should all do is drive to a Honda dealer and tell them we all have the problem. Or better yet we should call news stations and tell them we are going to do it and then Honda will get bad press and they will have to do something about it.

Dealers werent obligated to fix anything on a suspected 3rd gear issue complaint, esp. when Honda of America didnt release any sort of parts/service bulletin.

Dealers now are likely to repair the issue, of course with the bulletin brought to their attention. Making a scene or having an attitude is NOT the way to go about it. Treat the "working" people how you would want to be treated in their position. everyone is just trying to pay their bills...so cut them slack.

i deal with plenty of pissy, know-it-alls on a daily basis... which then sways me to not be very helpful and even less likely to go out of my way to help/order/price out a good deal.

it IS frustrating sometimes with these sorts of issues, but we all have to jump through the hoops in order to get it taken care of. Go in with a smile, and be willing to have the problem diagnosed the way Honda wants them to. More than likey they will have no problem taking care of you. Dont forget to mention the bulletin thats been released by Honda ( it will help). I know our dealer hasnt turned away anyone thats brought up the bulletin and issue (although i did let them all read the parts bulletin today, and one of them wasnt aware of it.)

*NOTE: its NOT a recall...just a service repair bulletin*

ALSO: if you DONT have an issue with the 3rd gear...dont take it in JUST to have FREE WORK done.....

i dont YET have the issue so im not gonna have it repaird on my 08 FA5 until it becomes apparent, despite being within the VIN break to be qualified.

JUst my $.02

^^^its the people who take their cars in for free work that ruin it for those of us who have a problem. I agree 100% with that part. if its not broke, dont fix it. All the dealers realy do is replace the part with an idenicle(sp?) piece. It may make a good tranny have the problem and may not even fix a problematic tranny. Thats what i have read about it anyway. Dont qoute me on any of that if u do take it in

I just hope that it fixes everything because im tired of being scared that my third gear is going to pop out whenever it wants to and grind the hell outta my tranny. it happened 8 times since i had my car.

Seriously, save yourself the trouble and put in Amsoil MTF. It is very easy to swap tranny fluid. The hardest part is getting the car jacked up to be level, but high up enough so you can get underneath to do the work. If that doesn't work, i'mma be shocked. The only way it won't fix your problem is if you've been forcing it into gear alot when it grinds, thus tearing up your synchro to the point of no return.

I had minor issues with the 3rd gear popping out when I got my 07 FA5. It was more when I approached redline at WOT in 3rd gear and pushed the clutch in to goto 4th. It would pretty much jump outta gear as soon as I began to push the clutch in. I also had issues with the 3rd gear blocking me from putting it in gear when the car was cold. Amsoil = fixed both problems.

It also doesn't hurt to drive your tranny nicely. You can drive like a maniac and redline alot and still be smooth with shifting and brake and throttle and your si will love you. Professional racers stress this philosophy and alot of them shifty fairly slow and sedate compared to young kids with adrenaline pumping. I'm not saying i'm the poster child of professional racing, but I have a stack of books that I picked up on racing, engine building, tuning, etc. since I got this car. I intend to keep this thing till there is no possiblity of driving it. It'll make a good project/race car once I'm done with using it as a dd.

Im ( like most of you ) just sick of the problem entirely. My girlfriend who drives an FG2, her clutch went at about 20k miles. She doesnt drive hard, and is as good at driving that car as I am. Anyways we ended up having to pay a considerable amount of money to replace this part. Her car does drive better and I havent heard anything fom her about the 3rd gear issue. But my FA5 gets worse as the days pass. I am taking it to HONDA this weekend for the first time and see what they say.
In reality tho, I, ( like some of you ) realize that there is a problem, and HONDA is the only ones that can do anything about it. So I kinda have to agree with with halfNhalf83 when he said that being a know it all might not be to our best interest. Anyways hope no one gets pissed. Just been reading alot about this and decided to "vent"
Thanks for reading...

Amsoil synchromesh MTF in, then say whether it is still a problem. Just read the numerous threads made about it. Best 20 bones you can possibly spend on your car

I personally think switching to amsoil is just a bandaid for the underlying problem.

Be nice. Tell them of your problem. Say you did some reasearch on the internet and found other people with the same problem ect ect but don't be a know it all like others have said.

When I have some free time I'll try to look up the SB's they did on my tranny. If I remember right there were three listed. Basically the service report said replaced 2nd and third sycros / rebuilt tranny.

After you take it and they say they could not duplicate it call American Honda. Then take it to another. Maybe Belleview?
