Phoenix/Tempe Guys

Hey guys, I am flying out for the National Championship Game, never been to AZ so I am wondering if you guys can hook me up with some good places to go in your area. I am staying in Tempe and the day after the game I have all day with nothing to do. I heard something about Mill Street being a cool place to go and heard there is a Casino around. Not sure of anywhere else to check out. Thanks,,and GO BUCKS!!!!

Haha, I'm going to be there for the Minnesota v. Texas Tech game (I'm with the band, don't judge).

I'm also looking for some cool places to go in Tempe.

Woo! You knew Minnesota was Big 10. I can't TELL you how many people don't think we're Big 10 just because Glen Mason is the worst Big 10 conference, and he gets paid more than almost all of them, if not the highest of them.

That, and our football team isn't that great, but they were young this year. They really lost out losing Lawrence Maroney.

I hope if any of you are going to the Insight Bowl that you stay and watch the bands, I know that's not the point of a game, but I know Texas Tech and we here at Minnesota have been busting our ass off for halftime and pregame performances.

There is plenty to in and around Tempe. If your into night clubs check out downtown Scottsdale. There are several bars in Tempe that great as well. As far as casino's, there is Casino Arizona at 101 / McDowell about 5 minutes from downtown Tempe.

I am sure that is a whole lot more to do just let us know what your exactly interested in doing and I can recommend some places.

I went to Arizona St and I live in Phoenix now. Mill Avenue, as it is called here, is cool but it is flooded w/ college kids..it is within walking distance from ASU. Scottsdale is also fun but it is much more expensive than Mill. We have 2 great malls (Scottsdale Fashion Square..I saw Barry Bonds here & Chandler Fashion..I saw Wee-Man from Jackass here..not as cool as Bonds but hey) that are pretty big and have tons of great restaurants and movie theatres attached. If you want the best ribs of your life go to Don & Charlies on Scottsdale Rd. & Hayden (its down the street from Scottsdale Mall). Its full of cool sports stuff and the ribs are amazing (I saw Dan Patrick from Sportscenter here..thats enough name dropping:)

Special Ringpop..I will be at the Insight Bowl..I work for Insight and we get free tickets. I'll cheer for MN now...I was indifferent but since there is a 8thcivic bandmember, that made my decision easy!! If you guys want any more tips give me a holler.

Thats what I'm talking about, college chicks wearing shorts in January,,being from Ohio thats something great lol
Well, I will know Sunday if I have a ticket or not so I am looking for a place to watch the game. I was planning on going to Glendale to the stadium b/c they are going to have something going on outside the Stadium I guess. But the day after I wanna hit the Casino, maybe do some shopping and then hit a club or bar to drink. I do want some genuine mexican food though. Here we have a choice, Taco Bell or Chipotle hehe

Awesome, I'm pumped. Try to watch part of our pregame, it's way better than our halftime, but we're doing a mound of sound for halftime, so that should be interesting .

Fiesta Inn...apparently it's super nice. We're flying out from Minneapolis. Apparently where we're staying is by the campus, but I'm not 100% sure. We haven't gotten all the details from the bowl yet. I'll have my laptop with me; I'm sure I'll get wireless there.

Hey Ringpop, what do you play BTW? Just curious.

I am staying at the Quality Inn in Tempe on 52nd St or something. You guys know what this place is like or the area? I booked thru Travelocity and after reading about a crapload of places this one got good reviews so I said screw it and booked it. Total price for me was less than $700 for hotel and airfare outta Cleveland, not bad at all. Some people are paying into the thousands now for this game so I got lucky and booked early. How far is it from Mill Ave? Also, think I should rent a car or are taxi's pretty reasonable for taking me anywhere I need to go?

It's my experience that taxis are freaking expensive as hell, from when I went to Nashville on our last bowl game.

But to answer someone's question, I play the mellophone. It looks like a large trumpet, not as large as a marching baritone. It replaces the french horn in a band.

Any really intricate rhythms or melody is usually played by the mellophones.

Kewl, I love playing the drums. I have a CD of The Ohio State Marching Band I play on Saturdays and it has a sweet drum cadence in it. I'll have to check out the Minn band on TV if they show it.

Now this steak egg and cheese burritos isn't going to make me drop the bomb all day is it? hehe
